Very impressed with the 8000
I just received the reel but so far very impressed. Definitely worth your time to check out. I'm used to fishing with Penn reels which i do love to use but they are getting somewhat proud ($) of their reels. The BG series reel is a step above the last Penn I purchased and less money. The 8000 is a tank- strong, fast and light. Living right at the beach, I use my reels on average 3 times a week- i will update the durability of this new design BG. My one concern is finding parts- In Florida, Penn parts are readily available so will have to find a source for the Daiwa reel.

Worst reel ever
Don't let you fool with the good reviews, I took this reel 3 times on the water, and is stuck now incompletely useless , I have a $15 reel that has been under salt water because I dropped and still never has fail to me. if you want to trow away your money go ahead i will never in my life buy a Daiwa again completely garbage. Go for a different brand also you can find better quality in less priced brands as well. Just saying is not worth it.

Doesn't last
I have two of these reels, the 3000 and 3500. They were both Christmas gifts so they are currently 4 months old.Out of the box, these reels look great and are smooth as butter. However, after light use in the salt, both if these have the same issue. Both slow down and jam up as the spindle reaches the top of the rotation. Sometimes this is accompanied by a plastic popping sound. I rinse after every use and neither have been dunked in the salt. I completely disassembled the reels and they still had heavy stock lubrication. I cleaned and re-lubricated the internals and the problem persists. I believe the issue is a design flaw with the newer reels.Customer service told me I could have the reels serviced but because I did not have proof of purchase, I would have to pay for the service. My other gripe is that my first trip out with the 3500 the handle fell off from the boat vibrations and fell in the water. $25 to replace that. Make sure you tighten those puppies down out of the box!Compare this all to the Pflueger budget freshwater reels that cost about $50 I used in salt that still work great to this day despite the rusting handles... I definitely should have went Penn.

... on the 2000 size this spring and am very pleased with this reel river fishing for smallmouth
Have put quite a few hours on the 2000 size this spring and am very pleased with this reel river fishing for smallmouth, walleye, trout, and bluegill. Lightweight and comfortable general use paired with 6'6" ML rod. With a full spool it casts nearly as far as my much larger President 6935. Drag is excellent. I've noticed though, the "Twist Buster" feature is no match for in-line spinners without a swivel.

Nice reel.
Very nice reel, took it out yesterday and fished with it. Reel is like buttah. Didn't catch anything, but that isn't the reels fault. Good price point, matched it with an ugly stik tiger. Looking forward to doing some catching real soon.

Its held up pretty well on some stripers last fall
Got a BG 3500 to replace my Penn Conflict 4000. Its slightly bigger but has way more cranking power and a bit more drag. Its held up pretty well on some stripers last fall. This year I'll be putting it to the real testEdit: almost 5 years later (oct 2021)… I own many, more expensive reels but this has been my go-to on the bridge. I’ve lifted up hundreds of schoolie stripers up to 6lbs up the bridge… which you shouldn’t be doing with a spinning reel - yet it’s still holding up great! It’s lost it’s super buttery smoothness after the first several fish, and deteriorated just a bit more the first year. However, it hasn’t gotten any rougher after that up to date. Smoothness went from 100 to 95, and now it’s been at a constant 90/100 for years. These over sized gears outlast shimano stradics all day. I’ve used this for lures from the bridge, surf rod, chunking bait and also for jigging from boats. Total workhorse. Lube up the spool shaft and pinion bearing once in awhile and it’ll just keep going.I believe the BG is the best value spinning reel, even amongst the other BG spin-offs from daiwa. The saltist, bg magseal, etc that are built off the BG platform (same body same gears) are just juiced up BGs for a much heavier price tag.In any case, as a $100 reel I would recommend this to anyone. This is like getting a fat rotisserie chicken at Costco for $5. Can’t beat the value!

Very solid and smooth
Gave this a good workout on a trip to Florida, and it was very impressive. Probably one of the best spinning reels I have used of late.1. Smooth drag, plenty of range on it for different types of fish.2. Easy bail operation. Was easy to engage without any hang ups.3. Solid handle. Probably the quirk, the handle doesn't fold down for transport, but it is a solid piece that is strong.4. Easy to clean. Made for salt ofcourse.Looking to add one of these for my freshwater fishing as well.
