I am using this to tune chainsaws and it appears to work well
I used this to tune 3 chainsaws. They were a Husqvarna 142e, a Poulan Pro PP4218AVX and a 1979 Stihl 032 AV with points and condenser. I tuned them by ear and then used this to verify my settings. I was shooting for around 3,000 on the low and around 13,000 for the high. It verified that my low end settings were about correct (I was a little above 3000, but the chain is not moving so the clutch is not engaged) and that my high end settings were a little low. I used this to bring up the high end RPMs by leaning out the H screw on the carbs a bit. With this I am more confident with setting the high end slightly higher than I would have done by ear while still staying below my saws maximum rated RPM. Your saws and ear are going to tell you where they run best, but this is a useful inexpensive tool to tell you when you may be in trouble of leaning out the saw too much. I did not have to wrap the wire around the spark plug wire, but was able to just lay it against the top cover and get good readings.

Looks great, instructions easy to understand and surprisingly accurate! Buy this with confidence!
I purchased this for my twin cylinder Honda Garden Tractor as it did not come with a tachometer nor hour meter and apart from wanting to keep track of the run time, I also wanted to keep an eye on RPM's while running attachments. The biggest surprise was how accurate the RPMs are. I have a mechanical tach that I connected to it and tested and then installed this and it was within 10rpm; as close as one can get. I was skeptical as the tach is inductive, it's done by wrapping the wire around the spark plug cable. The only downside to this is that there is no clear instruction nor material to help keep the induction wire wrapped around the spark plug cable. All it says is that you must wrap it around the wire 5-6 times tightly. I ended up using like 4 different zip ties to keep it tightly wrapped. It looks horrible but works for now.Dont let that dissuade you from purchasing it however, I just figured that I would mention it so you know.Overall installation is easy. They provide hardware to install via two different methods.1. with velcro2. by drilling two small holes and using the provided screws to hold in place. Both look great and neither installation affects the performance.

The tach feature. I will order one for my generator when I get to that project.
this looks like it will do fine. I am going to install it on a wood slitter when I replace the engine.

I didn't need to wrap the wire around the spark plug cable
I own a Husqvarna 350 chainsaw and this tachometer worked outside of the case that covers the spark plug and the air cleaner. I didn't even have to wrap the wire around the spark plug cable.I noticed one other reviewer said the same thing so I tried it and I was able to view the idle RPM's and the high torque RPM's.I turned on the LED light to keep it on all the time while doing the tune-up/adjustments to make seeing the RPM numbers easier. You can turn this tachometer off by press the MENU and the SET buttons at the same time. Once you see OFF in the display, release the buttons and the tach is off. This is a great item for me to check my RPM's on my chainsaw and to get the Low speed and High speed screws set correctly. The instructions are clear enough to understand too.I'm glad I purchased this tachometer, it will get plenty of use in the future on all of my small engines.

Easy install
I didn't know how this installed when I purchased it, so I figure there are others like me. It's pretty simple.... There's a battery, and a single induction/signal wire. You simply mount the head unit with velcro or zip ties (or a nice 3d printed mount to attach to a handlebar on a minibike, like I did) - then wrap the signal wire around your spark plug wire (any will do). It was configured for a single cylinder engine out of the box and worked for the gx200 I am measuring. But it works for many configurations through a relatively simple menu interface. This is going to act as the main tachometer for a minibike I am building. I cannot yet say whether it's accurate, as I'm still building it. If in a few months I haven't been back to update this review with a negative spin, then it's probably fine.If you're more concerned with hours versus RPMs, it's just another item on the menu and appears to work automatically based on whether a spark is detected.

Works great while it lasted
I have this on my SV650 due to the Tach going out, It works good and seems to be accurate but unfortunately the X000 digit started to malfunction above 4k rpm or so. The battery that comes installed is trash a replacement ran me about 9 bucks locally. The backlight is plenty bright. The unit started to malfunction about 20hrs into its life.
