A Definitive Guide and Outanding Resource
The editors of this outstanding publication note that their intent is to “reaffirm the courage, mind, and heart at the core of health social work, and to highlight the ways that social work contributes to the care of seriously ill patients and their families.” They have succeeded in that intent. They highlight the important and necessary roles of health social workers with regard to achieving quality palliative care across the care continuum and ensuring outstanding patient/family-centered care. By combining social work theory and practice, evidence and case narrative, the book serves as a guide for clinicians, students, and educators alike. It is an excellent and comprehensive resource. As someone who has spent her career in health care social work, I am pleased to recommend this book. Elizabeth Clark, former CEO of NASW.

This is a MUST buy for any health care social worker!
This excellent book is a must buy for any medical social worker. It is easy to read with relevant examples and case studies throughout the book. The information is very accessible and could be used by any social worker in the healthcare field or by other clinicians hoping to gain skills in the key aspects of palliative care. It is rare that I read a book beginning to end, but this one can be read fully or used as a handbook. I will use it in teaching as well as a personal resource for my clinical work. Thank you, this is a much-needed book for our profession.
