Zombies!!! X Review
Zombies!!! X: Feeding the Addiction is Twilight Creations 10th expansion, released on the 10 year anniversary of the very first Zombies!!! game. I was expecting something extra-special for this release and I must say, I'm a bit let down. The big draw with Zombies!!! X is the addition of "addiction cards" -- Gaming, Video Games, Shopping, Coffee, Exercise, and Gambling -- which give each player a bonus in one attribute and detract from another. For example, the Video Games addiction gives you +1 to combat but -1 to movement (the Exercise addiction does the exact opposite), and the Coffee addiction lets you roll 2d6 for movement one round, but then the next round you roll 1d6 and divide by 2. Honestly, I don't care for the "addiction" theme, and while I suppose it's just for fun, I don't see how it makes any sense in a zombie game. "I'm being attacked by zombies -- better have my coffee!" I think it would've been better to just add a bunch of character cards, similar to Last Night on Earth, where there's a farm boy who does +1 to combat, a nurse who can heal wounds, a jock that has +1 to movement, etc. Besides, since the addiction cards have pluses and minuses, any benefit from the addiction cards is canceled out on the next turn anyway, so really, what's the point? The new tiles also stay with the addiction theme and feature fast food restaurants (McD's), casinos, shopping centers (S-mart), strip clubs, and more. For the most part, the new tiles are rendered nicely and fit in well with the city theme of the Zombies!!! base game. There are some strange ones though, like the video game store: It's a massive, 10 story high L-shaped building, and basically looks like they took a generic office building and slapped a sign on the front that says "Video Games Store." Also, since many of the weapons cards in the base game can only be used in certain buildings, you won't be able to use most of them in any of the new buildings anyway -- so who will want to go in them? (There are certain event cards like "And They're Off" that allow you to move a character to a Betting Parlor or Casino.)The event cards also focus on addiction and include things like "Caffeine Crash", "Make Mine a Large", "Six Pack", "12 Step Program", and more. Again, I don't care for this theme so I probably won't ever use these cards -- though I should note that the illustrations are top notch as always. There's only 1 new weapon card, the "Noob Tube" (slang for Call of Duty's grenade launcher), which kills 1 zombie on any outside space anywhere on the board.Overall, Zombies!!! X just doesn't do anything for me. I don't enjoy the theme (I had hoped the tag line "feed the addiction" was going to be about players turning into zombies and having to eat brains or something), and thus I don't care for the addiction cards or the new event cards. The new map tiles look nice but don't really add anything to the game, other than making your city a bit larger. I have all the other Zombies!!! expansions, and I have to say this one is my least favorite because I just don't see the point. Hopefully Twilight Creations can come up with something more suited to the zombie motif for their next expansion.

A fun game even when losing!
My first introduction to the game was with this expansion kit. Enjoyed it even though I lost each time my friends and I played.
