Dual XLR White Decora Wall Plate Insert, Dual XLR Male to Solder Type Product Details: Connection: 2 XLR Male Ports Connection: 2 XLR Male Ports Color: White Weight : 0.3 number : CNE41473Decora wall plate inserts are used to cleanly bridge between in-wall cable runs and their origin and destinations. This particular insert converts in-wall wiring for transmitting XLR audio to devices utilizing XLR style audio inputs and outputs. The back of the XLR connection is solder based so you will need to be able to solder your in wall wiring to the decora wall plates connections.

Nice XLR Plugs for Decora Installations.
These Decora style plugs worked very well for me. They fit easily into a standard single or duplex box and are trimmed out with a standard Decora cover plate, the plugs were easy to solder too. I also like how they were mounted sideways so you can use both standard straight XLR plugs, or the less common right angle plugs. My only nit was that it's normal to include the screws to mount the plug into the box, these include the screws to hold on the Decora plate - because the screw holes aren't threaded - they're wood type screws. This isn't huge but I prefer standards. Still, I'd buy more of these.

It's hard to give a great review for you on this
It's hard to give a great review for you on this, as I really just bought it for the plate. At the time I bought this, I found that it was cheaper to buy this plate and then remove the XLR connectors and replace with an HDMI and ethernet plug (needed both in the same gang). It did the trick!!

A nice plate, but I'm taking away two stars for two possible design problems.A) When an XLR plug is inserted, the ground/shield (outer casing) of the XLR plug does not make any electrical connection to the ground/shield casing of this socket - it is entirely insulated by the plastic. There is a small metal tab internally on the wall of the socket, but the metal tab seems to recessed to make good contact with the plug.B) The locking tab of the XLR plug is only held in by a rather small plastic joint, which I anticipate will be broken off quite easily. I would have preferred this to be metal. The 3 pins can be soldered to easily, and a ground/shield tab is also provided to solder to - but the way this jack is designed the shield is not guaranteed to be connected. Electrically, this may or may not be a problem. XLR includes a signal ground (on pin 1) but there is also a chassis ground (the outer metal casing of the plug/socket) In some XLR cables the two are actually soldered together, but not always.Just beware your shield might be left floating if you use these sockets.
