OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer

I suppose the fact that it lasted for 6+ years is pretty good, but finally, the wire came out of one side with no possibility of fixing it. Basically, it's now trash. I guess that's why they came up with their newer (replaceable wire) model, which I just purchased. I do like the OXO stuff.

The first one I had broke the first time we attempted to use it. The replacement works fine. prefer an adjustable one but this one does the job. just always concerned it may break too.

I suppose most slicers are about the same, but it is worth noting that this one is very well constructed and has a comfortable grip. The roller and wire do a fairly good job of slicing a block of cheese without getting stuck. I was very happy with this item.

The cutting element broke out of the handle on me within 2 weeks of using it. Very frustrating, but for the price, what can I do?

Love the OXO brand and the good grip handle, but for the price I would expect the wire to last longer than a couple of months,.

Like other reviews said, this cuts pretty thick slices. It's good for cheese and crackers, and makes a nice clean cut. It's a nice addition to a kitchen like ours, which goes through a lot of cheese. I recommend it. The price is right.

I should have checked out other reviews because Oxo makes another item almost identical to this that has more bad reviews than you can shake a stick at. I bought this to replace another wire cheese slicer I got in a supermarket years ago that was starting to show its' age. I'm glad I didn't throw it away when this came, because I'm back to using it after about a week. Like all Oxo products I've had this looked and felt great, and like all of them it worked great as well...at first. Unfortunately, like a few Oxo products, this was not very well built. The design, ergonomics and function were all first class, but it broke after about a week. The wire snapped out and there is no way to replace it. Some of the better wire slicers have screws in the handle to allow the user to replace broken or loose wires, some even come with replacement wires, but not this one. I'm really dissapointed because Oxo makes some really wonderful products, but they also turn out a real turkey every now and then and this is one of them. Don't buy it!

I have had the WORST luck with wire cheese slicers , regardless of whether they were purchased at the grocery store or gourmet cooking shop. I actually had a $20.00 slicer fall apart with its very first use. I just bought this one a month ago, and though its longevity has yet to be proven, I just had to slice a TON of cheese for a large family Christmas party of 30 people, and was SO glad I bought this when I did! I love the grippy handle, and it made relatively quick work of 6 Sam's Club size blocks of cheese. It worked well on cheddar, monterey jack, colby, colby jack and mozerella. It has a nice weight and feel, and if it's as good as the rest of the Good Grips line, I expect it to last for a very long time.
