Loss, grief, growth, love and self-discovery
Love in Bloom is the first of a trilogy of books about the Snow sisters. In this first installment, Danica Snow has returned to her small hometown to set up shop as a therapist. She has a run-in with the town’s playboy, Blake Carter. Danica is the responsible, serious older sister who worries about her younger sister’s promiscuous ways and takes on being a Big Sister to Michelle, the fragile teenaged daughter of an alcoholic mother. Blake is a man-hoe who takes the opportunity to jump any willing woman who crosses his path. When his best friend and business partner, Dave dies unexpectedly, he does not know how to deal with his grief and his desire to change his ways. This search ultimately leads him to Danica where the sparks begin to fly and Danica is faced with her own choices. In true, Melissa Foster style this book is emotional and examines numerous difficult topics including alcoholism, promiscuity, grief, friendship, past loves, secrets and more. If you like Debbie Macomber you will love this book. The characters are flawed and struggle to move forward through their challenges but prevail in the end. The reader is drawn into the characters and they are fully brought to life. The story is overall very well written, with the exceptions I note below. The mystery of Dave’s death and “secret life” is intriguing and keeps you guessing. Blake becomes increasingly likeable as he travels on his journey to self-discovery and you ultimately see the good guy hidden beneath his playboy surface.B J Harrison did a nice job narrating the book. I liked having a male narrator and he clearly voiced each character with its’ own personality and characteristics. His female voices were well done and I enjoyed listening to him. I found he spoke a little to slow for my taste but setting the narration speed a little faster took care of that and I lost myself in his narration.I had just a couple of points that drove me crazy. They may not bother others but as a healthcare professional myself, they were enough to bother me. First, Danica is constantly referred to as a “therapist”. While this may be accurate it is clear she is a psychologist or a psychotherapist. Clearly specifying her role would be helpful. There are many types of professions that are called “therapists” from occupational therapists to physical therapists to psychotherapists. She is called Dr. Snow so one must presume she is a psychologist. She was very skilled and I actually thought it was a real shame she wanted to quit. The second point, related to the first, is the doctor-patient relationship between Danica and Blake. There are only two major tropes in romances that tend to really bother me. One is the teacher-student relationship and the other is the psychologist-patient relationship. These two relationships have intense power dynamics, often emotional, as well as strict ethical guidelines about relationships. While Danica is aware of this dynamic and worries over it, she still allows herself to get drawn into a relationship that skirts ethical boundaries. This could have been dealt with by having her discharge Blake when she realized her personal feelings were involved. This could have evolved into a friends relationship that could still have developed in a way that did not set off the ethical heebie-jeebies and still have the story progress in a similar way. Danica’s worry about losing her license to practice is real and she could have faced serious professional sanctions.Related to point two is Danica’s constant thinking about “giving up her license”. As a professional, that is just plain stupid. This is a woman who clearly has a PhD (she better if she is being called Dr.) meaning she spent at least 8 -10 years getting her degree plus practical work. You do not just “give that up” on a whim. In addition, although she had her dream to run a youth center, which was great by the way, there is no need to give up her license to do so. In fact, having her license and a PhD would give her more credibility as a youth counselor. It just did not make sense and the illogic of it made me angry every time she brought it up.Clearly, as a professional myself, these points pushed my buttons but did not prevent me from enjoying the book. Other than that I found this an enjoyable, if emotionally intense read. I look forward to seeing what happens with Danica’s sisters in future books***I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my own unbiased review.***

This is my first time reading from Melissa Foster and I have to say that I'm highly impressed!
I’ve been jumping on and on but I can’t seem to find the right book for me, or maybe I’m just not in the mood? But dang! After I read the first few pages of this story, I became alert and all the tiredness I felt earlier that night just magically gone!I’m not sure what totally made me like this story, was it because the guy has a sexy name? Or was is it simply because I’m drawn to this sexy guy? Or was it because I’m just interested to know what will happen if a player hook up with a shrink? Well, I think it’s all of the above, haha.I’ve been reading some positive feedback about Melissa Foster but I haven’t tried reading her stories before. I think it’s better late than never eh?The first encounter of the main characters, Blake and Danica, we’re quite uncommon or should I say a little funny? Well, it all started one day on a coffee shop when Blake accidentally elbowed Danica in the nose. Ouch right? But what’s more hurtful is that, even with the bloody nose and all, Blake still had the guts gaping at other chicks! Yep, what a good way to treat an injured lady ma-men!Blake is a shameless player and we’ve got to read a lot about that in this book’s first few chapters. I thought at first that his reformation is going to be cliché or something that we already know about, but… surprise! surprise! It wasn’t! I thought at first that it was because of the girl why he decided to change, but that’s not what happened, well, partly. It was because of what he witnessed. I know it’s quite difficult to change especially if that’s what he was used to be doing plus he’s also dealing with a lot of other things too. I like Blake’s character. I don’t know, but there’s something about him that differentiates him to other players. Aside from being the hottest guy to Danica’s eyes, he can be cute too. My favorite was when he said : You like me, like me? to Danica. I don’t know, it just sounded so cute during their confession scene.Danica on the other hand is professional yet very funny at the same time. It’s been pretty obvious that she’s attracted to Blake, and after all her sexy side comments about him in her head, I don’t know how she was able to act professional and give him some good advice lol. Yep, sorry for a bummer, but I guess you already figured it out since I mentioned at first that she’s a shrink. So yep, Blake was her client. I actually love Danica’s character and she’s one heck of a psychiatrist. I mean, she really knows a lot and knows what the right thing to say especially to people that needed advice and to stir them to the right decision. I think she’s one of the few female characters that I truly love. She’s not pushy, not trashy, not stupid (until one time she pissed off Blake about her hurtful assumptions, but hey, she’s drunk ), considerate, nice and all other traits I could possibly like for a heroine. This story was surprisingly entertaining that it made me stayed up so late last night. I’m not particularly sure what makes this story awesome. I guess it was because of the story line? Or because of the fact that this story includes some lessons about life, family, friendship, love and being able to overcome your weakness? Well, I guess it’s all of the above eh?I’m not sure if there’s even a conflict part, but thinking about it now, I guess there is. (there was?) But I’m happy that the author didn’t dragged that one out too far or else I would have been annoyed by now. The shifting of the characters plus their introduction and description is brief yet you won’t be having a hard time picturing them out. The words used were so very reader friendly too, so that’s definitely a two thumbs up for me. This book only introduces few number of characters so you’ll absolutely don’t have any hard time keeping track of them.Reading all of those things I’ve wrote above, you are thinking that it deserves a perfect 5-star rating eh? But I’m not sure. We’re still in book 1 and I’ve got two more books from the Snow Sisters series to read. So for now, I’ll be leaving a 4-star rating, but I’ll definitely go back and change it if I think I was wrong. If you want a book that is more than just a typical romance story, you might want to check out this book, Sisters in Love by Melissa Foster. It’s book one of the Snow Sisters series but you can definitely read it standalone.

Sisters in Love
AudiobookI have finally gone back to the beginning of where this series all started! The Snow Sisters. I started the Love in Bloom Series by Melissa in the Seaside Summers spin off and I have continued to follow her new releases but never had a moment to go back to the start. Sisters in Love is book one in the Snow Sisters series and book one in the huge Love in Bloom universe from Melissa. The Story:Sisters in Love is a quick, fun read full of romance, love, and close family. Danica Snow is a therapist and our guy Blake Carter is a player with no desire to settle down but after the sudden death of his best friend and business partner, he realises he needs to change his womanising way but has no idea where to start. After a brief meeting with Danica in a coffee shop, he had no idea that she was about to become his therapist! Danica doesn't want to risk her career, but it is clear that the attraction between this is red hot - but can a player really change his ways? Can Danica trust a guy like Blake? You will just need to read on to find outThe Narrator:BJ Harrison did a great job, (though I am not entirely convinced with his female voices). He did switch seamlessly between characters and did manage to convey the emotions of the characters, but once I got into the book and listened to him more he grew on me

Sisters In Love...
I've given 4 stars to the first instalment of The Snow Sisters Trilogy... this little book packs quite a lot into it...Danica is part of the 'Big Sister Programme' and the situation with the girl she's assigned to is quite a good side to the story, Danika also has parental issues where she feels she needs to be the 'responsible and professional' daughter who always does what's expected, and one of those things was becoming a therapist... also, I have to admit that her biological sister Kaylie really rubbed me up the wrong way and that's one of the reasons I haven't started the next book yet...Blake... jeez where do I start... he's a self proclaimed man-whore with anger issues who wants to change his ways but doesn't seem to be able to, then his best friend and business partner Dave has a tragic accident, Dave's wife then looks to Blake and having to help her and her son with the aftermath spurs Blake on to receive professional help...Danica and Blake 'literally' bump into each other and they definitely don't 'Hit it off' in the positive sense of the word... Blake comes across as the player he is which irks Danika straight away and when Blake seeks the help of a Therapist, walking through the doors of his first session, he and Danika are both surprised when they recognise each other...This was a nice, interesting, Cotemporary Romance with issues that were explored in an entertaining way... I liked the main characters a lot and will definitely be reading the rest of the series... the only thing I didn't really like was that I wasn't swooning at the end of it, I wanted more, and maybe I'm just being greedy, but I wanted to hear the L word come from their lips... also, there were a few issues that don't really get resolved but I'm assuming they will in the following books, however, there's no real cliffhanger so it could possibly be read as a standalone...Sexual situations and language rate it as suitable for 18+

Book Review: Sisters in Love (Love in Bloom: Snow Sisters #1) - Melissa Foster
I wouldn't say this was specifically a Christmas story. Set in winter, yes. A Christmas tree does feature once and of course, there is snow and skiing in the village. My initial reaction to this story was, oh here we go! It's going to be about this guy and his conquests and tricks. Clichéd. But as the story progressed and the characters developed it was apparent that the author was not going down the route I initially thought I was on. I liked the characters and particularly the way the dialogue/relationship between Danica, the therapist and Blake her patient/client developed. The focus on Danica and those she helped was interesting, also the relationship between Blake and his friend's family. Yes, there were some parts I found annoying and wondered if they really were necessary in any great detail but there are few books that please the reader totally. I must admit once it really got going it was one of those reads that are difficult to put down.

Loved it!!
I absolutely loved listening to this book!!!I love Danica and Blake and there happily ever after was so sweet. It's been a while since I visited their story as I have obviously read it and it was lovely to go back to where it all began. The road to love is not easy and it takes a while for them to get there but when they do boy is it HOT.I did not want this story to end and cannot wait to listen to Kaylie's story and more especially Gabe's story, which I have already read but cannot wait to listen to it as well.
