Haydn Edition

It would cost a fortune to buy all this music individually, yet here it is, all in one convenient boxed set. Great composer, great music, great price for 160 cd set. Many hours of enjoyment of some of the greatest music ever composed. I don’t know if all the cd’s in the set have the best sound quality or not. Only time will tell, but so far I am satisfied with the recordings. It will take many hours of listening to get through the entire collection and I’m satsfied it will be an enjoyable journey. Thank you Brilliant Classics for providing such wonderful box sets of our favorite composers music !!

I'm still working my way through the 2017 Haydn Edition, but I've listened to 2/3 of it so far and it's all been excellent. I initially rolled my eyes a bit at seeing about 20 CDs of folk song arrangements. But unlike the Beethoven or Brahms songs, the Haydn arrangements are kind of nice. And they're performed well, of course. I was also surprised with the lira concertos. I heard an LP version decades ago and didn't like them at all. While still not among my favorites, the version here seemed much better. Finally, I had no idea there were so many baryton trios, and a lot of nice one too.

I've only made my way through a fraction of the box so far, so I can not speak to the quality of each and every disk, but I am so far very pleased with the performances and recording quality---especially given the price of this set (less than $1/disk).

This will be an interim review and perhaps I will add to it later on. I am only up to disc 30, corresponding to Symphony No. 96, so all I have heard are the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra performances. They have been quite good. I might at some point do a detailed comparison with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra integral recording of the Haydn symphonies. My overall impression is that the A-H ones are a bit more impassioned and the Stuttgart ones a bit more elegant, but I haven't put them side by side yet. The box is the usual efficient presentation and I have encountered no problems with the discs. All the sleeves have movements and timings. There is a 160 page pdf online of program notes and texts.

Solo soy una aficionada a la música clásica y compré esta recopilación para conocer la obra de Haydn. Casi todos los discos que he escuchado hasta ahora me han gustada y las grabaciones son bastante buenas. Recomiendo.

Have listened to whole set. Haydn delivers great musical entertainment throughout. I can't ask for more than that. Very strong.

The clarity makes this Haydn edition a complete delight for listening.
