The usual excellent space opera
This one answers my question after finishing TLF:BtF:Guardian—yes, that series will be continuing, along with the “Lost Stars” parallel series (with the occasional crossover of the two). This one starts out with Geary, Tanya, and the Dauntless on Old Earth, where they learn some things about its history that had largely been forgotten throughout the rest of human space, and are also the targets of an assassination attempt. Then there’s an adventure when a pirate ship lands on the forbidden moon Europa with a couple of their crew members as hostages, and the Dauntless’s marines stage a rescue. They no sooner return to Alliance space than Geary is ordered to take the 1st Battle Cruiser Division—with no support vessels—to a system on the border of Syndic space that has been receiving a massive number of refugees from a nearby Syndic system, where he is ordered to take them back to where they came from. Of course, he does a good deal more than that, and in the course of doing so, it becomes apparent that some powerful people back in the Alliance are fomenting these actions and trying to get Geary killed in the process. I suppose we’ll find out what happens next in May or June of 2015… Good space opera as usual.

Excellent installment, excellent setup, but flaws in this book barely keep it out of 5 star territory.
First off, the concession: I've read all of the author's published books, under every pseudonym I could find. I can't say I've hated a single one.Second, the good: This book breaks up some of the traditional relationships and gets Jack off his wife's ship a few times. More of this, not less would be better. Jack is a world maker, universe shaker, who needs a place to stand and a lever to move it, but while Dauntless has been a good stage, he needs to leave it from time to time. It's when our main character is vulnerable to the elements of this universe that we fear most for his safety. Campbell uses it as a catalyst in this book, and I have to say it works.Third, the bad: The telegraph of the plot happens early and often, is strong, but simply doesn't carry this book. There are action scenes and interesting elements, but there's an entire middle portion of the book that doesn't seem to set anything useful up. In the limitations of the quest story line, there is nothing really being quested for. There are hints, but it's almost like watching someone go to their favorite grocery store and buy food. There are some great scenes in the book, but this is perhaps the weakest in the series. Still likable, but off message.Fourth, is it worth it? OH YES. There are fights, there are believable twists, the story advances, and it is a stone that cannot be skipped as we head to the next novel.

A Tremendous Series
This is more about the entire series. It's incredibly good! I have read all the books and have them as Audible Books as well. The store is good and builds on itself. Lots of depth to the characters as well as exciting action. You won't go wrong with this series. It has my highest recommendation.

The Alliance Continues to Falter. Is Geary the only one truly working for peace ? Recommended book and series
The only problem with every book in this series is that they are so engaging that you finish them really fast. But it's worth it.This is the fourth book in the “The Lost Fleet Beyond the Frontiers” series which also includes “Dreadnaught”, “Invincible”, and "Guardian". This is the 10th book in the Lost Fleet series."Black Jack" Geary has created a window for peace between the Alliance and the Syndicates but others just keep on stirring the pot. While back on Earth two of his staff are kidnapped and while returning to his star ship they come under attack by three cloaked ships. Typical of all of Jack Campbell's books in this series there is action from start to end and this book follows that format to a T.Geary and his crew are sent on missions by Erath that really bring to question whether the politicians want him to survive or die.The various space battles are articulate in their description and you are right there for you to see it all played out.A true twist at the end reveals the answer to one question but raises so many more; that will be answered in the next book in the series out in October 2014.Highly recommended, as is the entire series. Just search Lost Fleet and they will all pop up

Three for one
First, a note: When I bought this book as a X-Mas gift to myself, I was in the middle of another book, from an author that has a 95%+ approval rating in my opinion. I dropped it to focus in Steadfast. I devoured as fast as I could, and came up very satisfied with how I spent my time (the other book was very good too, If anybody's interested)Now, Steadfast chronicles the events of the life of John Geary over a period of time, like all the other books of the Lost Fleet series. Unlike the others of this series, the book could be split into three novellas without any difficulty: a hostage crisis that demands an ugly solution; a police action to stabilize the frontier that turns out to be harder than expected; and the escort of some VIPs that turns very ugly very fast.At first sight, it looks like that the seires, like the civilization the characters live in, is adrift, without goals. I think that's more of an illusion than anything else - it's setup for the next crisis the characters will need to face (one that's been foreshadowed for some time now). And that's why I didn't give it five stars. You shouldn't spend a whole book with setup, no matter how interesting and well crafted it is.It's a good book, dealing with some ugly things that happens when you've been to war for too long, even if you ended up winning the damn thing. Just keep in mind that this book exists in a context, and shouldn't be taken as a standalone book. It's NOT a good jumping point for the series.Another thing: It came to my attention that the author likes to do games with the names of his characters. With that in mind, it would be a good idea to keep a aerospatial fighter jock named Galland in mind. I think that she'll become an important support character in the future.

A fantastic read.
Just finished reading this episode in the Lost Fleet series and I already have the next one (Leviathan) to start today. It's an excellent read; one which I struggle to to put down. Jack Campbell has produced an excellent storyline which I strongly recommend to sci-fi readers.I've already pre ordered his next book too, which is due for release on 15th June.

Another excellent read!
Reminds me so much of the 2003 Battlestar Galactica series. I can imagine Geary and Adama being one and the same.
