.com "America's sweethearts," Rolling Stone once dubbed the Go-Go's, and it was certainly as true as it could've been in any post-'50s milieu. The surf-tinged New Wavers sold more than 2 million copies of their 1981 debut, Beauty and the Beat, while carrying on backstage in the grand manner of rock stars with much "dirtier" images. Thus the Behind the Music episode that occasions this 17-cut overview. Highlights of the L.A. quintet's three albums fill the disc, though "Forget That Day," the Talk Show track that precipitated jill-of-all-trades Jane Wiedlin's departure from the group, is intriguingly absent. Whether double-edgedly celebrating romance and the ties of band life (the ringing "Our Lips Are Sealed"), wickedly satirizing post-teen female concerns ("Girl of 100 Lists"), or affectionately saluting their pop-culture forebears ("Beatnik Beach"), the Go-Go's were one of the era's most pounding and poignant pop outfits. This CD recalls them as they deserve to be remembered: lovingly. --Rickey Wright

This CD has all the Greatest hits from the Go Go's. Plus others. only gripe is the Case. Has cracks on the front cover of case. Otherwise good condition.

Strong compilation, solid remastering
The clean, distinct remastering of this CD makes it a winner, unlike the muddiness of the first greatest hits compilation. Of course, the big early hits are here, but the songs that explore punk roots, turned-on-its-side beach music, and catchy pop rock are here, too. Recommended.

Sounds fantastic
The remastering job is fantastic on this CD, it is indicated as a 24-bit remaster, and it sounds amazing like a fresh new recording with modern equipment than the way it was initially heard in the 80's. Makes the band come alive. I'm glad I bought this one.

This is a high-quality remaster with a good collection of songs
This is a high-quality remaster with a good collection of songs. It encompasses the full spectrum of Go-Go's songs and has something for everyone. They may have been dismissed at the time as a fad, but the Go-Go's paved the way for future bands. I still find most of their music relevant today.

Good listen
Lots of good songs on this one. They weren't the best musicians/songwriters in the world, but they had a lot of gumption, and you can tell they enjoyed what they did. I think they kept open a lot of doors opened by Benatar and Joplin, and let girls know that it COULD be done with an all-girl band, and pretty darn well, at that.

One of the best compilations of Go-Go's music
The Go-Go's are one of the best bands of all time! This CD has what I think are the absolute best songs by the Go-Go's. My favorite song is "Can't Stop The World". I used to have the tape with this song on it, and I wore it out.Whenever I listen to the Go-Go's, it brings back great memories...and it's always fun to dance and sing to the music! I highly recommend this CD to any die hard Go-Go's fan!
