Headphones lock in perfectly, wonderful sound, and I can still hear my surroundings.
The headphones work really well. It takes some time getting used to the way they "lock" in but after you get the hang of it, they rock pretty hard. I went running with them yesterday and they don't budge. My old headphones (even with the loop around the ear) would half-fall out so I either wouldn't hear what's going on (and had to turn up the volume and still not hear) or have to keep replugging them in. These don't do that, they stay in.I use these in the office outside of the gym as well and you should know that they do not block out outside sound. It's a good thing for a runner (you hear a car, bike, person or whatever around you) and a safety positive; however, at a workplace, you will overhear co-workers chatter and banter. I don't mind it and find it actually useful and comforting. The sensation is akin to hearing the music and the outside sound at the same level, neither drowns the other one out. Very cool.

These are perfect for any athlete.
I have a hard time finding ear buds to fit my ears- I guess they have a weird shape or something, but all of the common ones that are just buds that go in your ears won't stay in mine for more than 5 seconds. So after buying many different pairs, and being disappointed over and over, I finally found these. They conform to my ears and stay put, even throughout my hardest, sweatiest workouts. The sound is great, and doesn't fade with time like others do. My only complaint is that the buds themselves fall off really easily- I learned that lesson the expensive way when they both fell off and I had to buy a new pair. But really, if you carry the headphones in your hands instead of letting them hang on your neck like I did, you should be fine. I would recommend these to any athlete or anyone who has the same problem as I do with headphones.

They stay in my ears better than normal earbuds
If you are someone that has found earbuds to not fit your ear, even with different sizes, you'll probably have the same problem with these. They stay in my ears better than normal earbuds, but I haven't found a good way to angle the ear wrap-around part to make them comfortable. I took the ear wrap-around parts off, and again, earbud portion stays better than most but still not well, at least while running. I think I must have weirdly shaped ears or something. I like that they made them so that you can rotate the angle of the wrap-around portion to the buds (or take them off). I like the rubbery plastic, so they've held up very well even though I use them exclusively for working out, and they've got pretty good sound. I found it difficult to put them on: getting the earbud portion in the ear, the wrap around portion around the ear, and also doing the "locking maneuver." And since they really only stay seated correctly for a short time, it's even harder to try to do all that to put them back in while running. So in short, not great for the "stay-put" feature, and if you have a hard time making ear buds comfortable, these will probably be no different for you. But good construction; I still pick up these when I work out because they stay better than the average earbud design, and their material makes sweat less likely to cause them to stop working.

A little awkward, but if you can live with it a great choice.
I would give it 3.5 stars, but since I cannot I will round up to four. The rubber surrounds are quite large and barely fit my ear. On the other hand the surrounds do a great job of isolating music into your ear and keeping out ambient noise. I can still hear a car coming up or someone shout, but I don't have to run my mp3 player at full blast to hear my tunes. The rubber over the ear things are nice. They are soft and fit over my ear snug.I had MEE over the ear headphones before. The MEE ones were more comfortable once you found the right rubber piece, but two main things happened. One I would get sweat build up in my ear which would get into the hole for sound and muffle the sound. Two the over ear parts just had a wire in the rubber sheath which ended up breaking and they would not stay securely while I was running. After the wire broke they would come unseated and I would lose a lot of sound. Both actually sound pretty clean. Not up to par with klipsh S4, but still pretty clean for the money. I might still pop the $50 for Sennheiser OCX 685i, but I am hoping not to.

for trail running these are the cat's pajamas
I'm reviewing the Ironman Focus behind the ear earphones now that I have 500 miles of trail running on them. I know I have 500 miles on them as I just retired a pair of shoes that I got at the same time. I'll preface my review by stating I am not audiophile, I'm quite sure there are better earphones for the listening experience out there, but mine were purchased solely for trail running. First they sound fantastic- to my untrained ear anyways. Secondly they are very secure trail running, I've never had one come out (the beauty of behind the ear design). I've run with these between 20 degrees and 90 degrees, from 3000' to 10,000' and in howling wind. I've used them in light rain (and light snow), but not in heavy rain- with no ill effect. I don't think they make any claims on waterproofness, so hard rain might not be a good idea???? In addition to 500 trail miles, they get used twice a week for about an hour at a time in the gym. Needless to say they have repeatedly been soaked thoroughly in sweat. We're just starting into the winter season here, so I'll report back on how they do in very cold weather (I'll continue trail running to about 0- below that I'll forego running and hit the stairmaster :))I'm very satisfied w/ these earphones and highly recommend them for anyone that participates in active outdoor pursuits- the price isn't too bad either.
