Designed to fail.
This is my first attempt to try a robotic cleaner for my pool (18,000 gallons). The pool was already manually cleaned a week prior to this attempt. No debris such as leaves in the pool, but only the usual dust and small insects in the water. The only thing good about this cleaner is that it goes back and forth in the pool. It some times climbs the stairs in the pool too. Could make a good toy for rich people! Hence a 1 star rating may be ok.It DOES NOT CLEAN AT ALL. Neither removes dusts/insects nor removes the small layer of algae even after they are loosened up by my previous day's treatment of Algicide.Within 15/20 minutes of running, the control's filter light gets on. When I open and clean the filter I notice there is a rubber belt that is running VERY CLOSE to a rubber valve. May it is rubbing or may be not. It is so on both side valves. Being a mechanical design engineer myself for 30+ years, I will be very surprised if this machine works for long period. This is designed to fail immediately OR after few months. Seems like they have put lot of effort on the automation & robo's movement but dropped the basics in mechanical design. May be in their CAD drawing when zoomed in, they saw a few microns gap between the valve and the belt. But theory is different and reality is different. I have taken pictures of the design flaw in case any one wants to see. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to return the product with absolutely no hastle.

Great purchase
The blue diamond robotic pool cleaner is easy to use and keeps the pool clean. We are happy with the remote control. It is user friendly. There are problems with access to corners and steps, but all in all, we are pleased with the purchase.

Water Tech Blue Diamond Remote Control In-Ground Pool Cleaner
A superior pool cleaner.*I did a thorough search of pool cleaners available from or through Amazon*I gambled on the expensive (over $1600 Blue Diamond "Remote Control In-Ground Pool" model" because it specifically claimed it could clean algae*The pool was filled with runaway algae*It replaced a Polaris that clearly was not up to the job of cleaning a 25'X50'8.5 pool*After only four days the pool was again pristine*The full bag light was very useful given the repeated cleanings necessary*The remote control was simple to use and also very efficient*Although expensive, this unit has worked wonderfully well, and for my needs is so far very much worth the price*A caveat: I've had this unit for only 10 days.*An update will be provided in future months or years if requested.

3.5 Stars In My Opinion
I bought the Blue Diamond with remote in the summer of 2008 for use in a 16x32 fiberglass in ground saltwater pool with a 5.5" deep end. It worked for four full seasons with only minor repairs to the belts and wheels and replacing the bag - maybe cost a total of $100. It vacuumed the bottom of the pool very well, but I've never seen it go farther up the wall than a couple of feet. I blame myself for that - until shopping for a new pool cleaner I didn't realize that robotic vacs actually can get up to the waterline consistently, so I should have called customer service to look into fixing it. We just brushed the dirt from the steps and ledge into the bottom for the vac to get. Of course, part of the dirt resettled on the ledge and steps, but it didn't really bother me.We haven't used the remote since the first year because it didn't work that well. It would take a little while for the vac to respond to the remote, then it would quickly reverse back to it's prior course unless we kept pressing the button for whatever direction we were trying to make it go. But it was no big deal since the vac did a good job of cleaning the pool when left for the entire cycle (it did have a corner by the steps that it always missed, but again we just brushed any dirt there into the middle).I bought a robotic vacuum because I wanted to be able to easily clean the pool without having to hook up hoses for a suction or pressure side vac. The Blue Diamond did exactly that, so it met my expectations. I also liked the cart; it made it more convenient to put away when we had company and to store for the winter. It doesn't get 5 stars because it might have saved some work if it went up the walls, and because I'm not sure that it was worth $1,100 (in 2008) for four years of service. From reviews of other pool cleaners, that sounds like the average life of most pool vacs so I'm not unhappy but I'm also not going to spend that much every four years when there are other cheaper vacs with good reviews.
