MindWar (Nick Hall Book 3)

Outstanding new stand alone techno-thriller from Douglas E Richards!
There are only two things you need to know prior to reading Douglas E Richards new tecno-thriller "Mind War".Firstly - if you haven't read a novel by Richards before, strap yourself in and hang on tight, as you are in for an absolute thrill ride from beginning to end.Secondly - take the next day off work so you can sleep, as this book will keep you up all night needing to know what happens next!Although this is officially the third novel by Richards with lead character Nick Hall, it is a definite "stand alone" as I mentioned in my headline, and does not need to be read as a third installment as you may expect with many other series. It will, however, make you want to read the first two if you haven't already! The twists, the turns, the back story, the side stories, ....every single aspect of this book makes you want to just keep turning pages right from the word go. Unfortunately, you do eventually get to the end.........and it just leaves you wanting more, which I am sure Richards has the ability to deliver in spades. All of the characters involved draw you in completely - especially for me, the ones designed specifically for the reader to "love to hate"!From the amazingly loyal and patriotic mind reading marine biologist who routinely saves so many innocent people he should wear a cape, the arms dealer who is more true to his word than Superman (yet will never take betrayal lightly), to a psychotic genius with a god complex, you cant help but be completely immersed in each an every moment and character this story has to offer.Richards once again proves he is one of the most ingenious and entertaining writers of this genre, taking the techno-thriller to new extremes. I'd actually go so far to say Richards, in my opinion, is one of the finest fiction writers of his generation.I thoroughly recommend this book to all who love a fast paced, action packed thriller with conceptual science so well researched and written, you'd think it was already a reality.

Great end to a 3 book series, maybe, I hope, not the last!
I always find it fascinating that authors can come up with riveting stories, especially in a series. This is (hopefully & seemingly not) the last in a borderline sci-fi that may become our future world. In it people will be able to access the Internet directly through our brains, & maybe throw in a little mind reading to spice life up. This series was compelling in many ways. Complicated plots of a single hero who received brain implants as a hostage & ended up being a mind reader as well. Fortunately, he's a pretty good guy who uses these "gifts" for good. But of course, there are the "bad" guys & the quasi good or bad guys...who can tell them apart sometimes!?!Twists & turns galore, with much to ponder as to how science & technology may change our lives. Love the "what's real now", what's in development, & what's just a "figment of a very creative mind" segments at the end.

The Adventures of Nick Hall Continue, With Brio
This, the third of the Nick Hall series, has the same qualities as the previous two: it's a thriller, moved along with enough changes in the path of the story to make most heads spin. The character support for the story is dependent upon in-depth constructions of Hall, the main protagonist, and Victor, the primary villain. To his credit, Mr.. Richards portrays the villain with as much richness of character as he does Hall, which has the effect of enabling many plot twists that would otherwise be difficult to justify.Crafting of the story aside, I would be remiss if I didn't praise the amount of research Mr. Richards devotes to his settings, both geographical and technological. He describes places I know with satisfying fidelity, and this gives me confidence that the settings I don't have personal experience with are as he portrays them. It is similar with technology: the entities I know about are confirmed by in depictions, thereby providing me with education about those of which I have not yet heard. I find this style most satisfying to read.Let me note, without risking spoilers, that Mr. Richards has left the endings of his previous Nick Hall novels at least slightly open to extension. This one is no exception to that practice; I expect there will be another Nick Hall novel sometime in the future.

Fantastic
Great job and as good a read as I've ever come across. Thank you especially for your gift to us of the 1st novel in the Nick Hall series. Your near future approach to science fiction is a breath of fresh air and I can actually imagine living long enough to see these things happen

Need better plan
I kind-of like the first and second installment. But with this third installment, the author seemed to have run out of "tricks". We have new main characters dropped into the story left and right. It was like ... Oh! I run out of idea, lets add a new villain and see how I can spicy things up. I would hope that the important characters won't be dropped into the story so abruptly, like that Troy Browning character. This Browning guy basically just showed up in the story, and occupied 6 or 7 chapters to build his story line. So is the Lucas character. When I tried to follow and build my expectation on the story, then here you go, another character for your consideration and how this character is like aha tied to the story line in this or that way. Sorry. That just turned me off. I would hope that they showed up in the story in a more subtle way early on, like providing hints here and there that such character exists. And then provide that AHA moment like, see, he or she was tied to the story line without you knowing it.

Mindwar
The 3rd book on this series came to a thrilling conclusion, as did the preceding 2. The mark of a great story, for me, is that you don't want it to end and I suspect this will be the case at the conclusion of book 4. Brilliantly written with plenty of twists and turns and above all, characters that you genuinely care about. Excellent reading!

Great
This third book is a natural and exciting continuation of the first two books. Nick, Megan, and the THT had undergone huge paths to fight terror around the world but not without a price. Victor and his crime organization have a comeback (and a problem on themselves to deal with), ESP might be on the loose and sometimes even the most trusted dude would betrayal people who are cared about. Sensational plot, pace, and style.

The Momentum Continues
I love that the ideas keep evolving in the Nick Hall series. Usually by the third book, the ideas are just being rehashed but I’m thrilled that the momentum has only increased! Well done indeed!
