Closer: 52 Devotions to Draw Couples Together

I love the flexibility of this and the challenges are that which can be done easily. My husband has busy weeks with work so we can typically only do one chapter every week to two weeks, but the way the chapters are formatted it doesn’t matter if we do it weekly or if we were able to do it daily. I usually will read the chapter alloud and then we will go over the questions and challenges together. We have always had a good relationship, but we’re looming for a way to strenthing our spiritual relationship with each other and this book has been the perfect guide for that. We’ve been able to pray together, talk about scripture together, and so much more. Highly recommend for anyone, but especially those who are looking for a way to have some quiet, quality, healthy time with their spouse.

Terrific guide! We went through it together three years in a row! We just kept getting deeper and deeper ....and dare I say, falling more in love! It's true!! We kept looking for a similar book to work through together. Until we finally found one, we decided to keep repeating this. It was time well invested in each other, in our selves, in our family and in our marriage.We have started buying copies for those we love, as well as giving the book as a wedding gift.

There anointed people give practical advice on strengthening the relationship between married couples. It's awesome to see someone in the body of Christ who is willing to be open, transparent and naked before the people of God and say "yes we've had some obstacles that we've had to overcome in our marriage" . I thank God for them allowing Him to minister to others who are struggling in their marriages and are seeking godly help.

My wife and I have started reading this book together (in addition to the Love Dare devotional book). I feel that this particular book is better for "couples" growth whereas the Love Dare book we have furthers individual growth, which then of course helps with couples growth. I actually bought both at the same time because I felt they would help us in different ways. We like Closer because it challenges us at the end of each reading - my wife and I have done devotion books before and it was pretty much read a devotion, talk about it and pray, then go to sleep. Closer takes the discussion a step further and opens the door to a more in depth encounter (if you let it). It helps my wife and I open up to each other in an intimate way through discussion. I would highly recommend this book to any couple.

OK this book is a must buy for any young couple or if you have been married for a long time! This book brought my husband and me so much closer with our faith. I love books with activities or any kind of fun extra stuff besides reading. This book is full of fun stuff and questions. The hardest thing to find in devotionals is ones with good questions and this one is great! Excellent book! I have actually bought several of them as wedding gifts because it is so important in a married couples life to pray and worship together.

This book was written with two thoughts in mind. Those that pray together stay together. But we don't always have time to spend an hour with our spouse every day. So the authors came up with a book that can be read every day if you are that couple. But for the rest of us with crazy busy lives can take this book one chapter a week. Every devotional starts out with a Bible verse and story that relates to the topic. It ends with two sections called "Faith Conversations" and "A Step Closer" that give suggestions and topics the couples can use to learn more about each other and be drawn closer to each other and God. Each chapter touches on things that are relevant to the things couples are facing today.I really, really enjoyed this book. I loved it so much that my husband and I will be starting it this week. We have crazy busy lives and have often felt guilty for not spending any time spiritually together. This book takes the guilt out of that and provides an answer. The chapters are short enough that my husband won't balk at participating. The questions are probing and deep, but not too mushy for the guys. I, like the author, think this is a great starter devotional for those who are just starting that quiet time together or for those who are too busy to fit in a personal quiet time as well as a couple time.

My husband and I are really loving this book. It has opened us up to good conversations about our faith and relationship. You won't be disappointed. It's not complicated, and easy to follow.

This is a very good couples devotional book, but the "action" steps they encourage at the end of each section could really take up a lot of your time. Not that your relationship isn't worth investing a lot of time in, but sometimes life doesn't allow for 30-45 min. sessions of talking and writing as a couple. That's why we use it only now and then (certainly not daily), and we "tailor" the "assignments" to our liking, our needs and our schedule.
