Praise from L.J. Castleman, Family Pysician
This author, Dr. Ken Grauer, a cardiologist himself, presents the fundamentals of the interpretation of the modern 12 lead ECG electrogram, including the pathways of the electro-physiological micro-voltage potentials, as they originate from the Atrial, or Ventricular Pacemaker foci down through the Hiss-Purkinje (conduction) bundle pathways, and branches, down to and to energize (i.e. activate) the appropriate portions of the cardiac ( heart) muscle to contract in a coordinated and effective manner to pump blood through the circulatory system, in a very clear, concise and readily understandable way. The use of full color diagrams, and pictures, is very helpful in communicating, and understanding, these basics, which understanding is essential to the intelligent and accurate interpretation of electrocardiograms. This book is not only an excellent primer in 12 lead "EKG" interpretation for novice medical student and para-medical personal, but also serves as an excellent review for general medical personal and physicians, who have not previously specialized in cardiology, and who are wishing to learn more about modern 12 lead EKG interpretation. This primer should be followed by, and with, this same author's full color other volume, "ECG-2014-Pocket Brain (Expanded)", for the interpretation of a broad range of examples of abnormal cardiac functioning disorders, as manifested in presented 12 lead EKG electrocariograms.

Wonderful primer on ECG interpretation
In 1992 I purchased an earlier edition of this book as I began my 17 year span of teaching family practice nurse practitioner students at a major university in the South. At this time the only ECG knowledge I had was that of placing electrodes for a 12-lead ECG.. Soon after that I purchased Dr. Grauer's book on cardiac arrythmias, and have updated this purchase from time to time. I am now retired, and want a new edition of basic ECG interpretation to enable my aging friends and relatives to understand their cardiac diagnoses. There is much to like about this 2014 edition - the pages are all in color and nearly all pages have illustrations. For me the spiral binding is an exciting feature; the text lies flat in an opened page, so one does not lose the page when the book snaps closed unbiddingly. I recommend this basic text on ECG interpretation for health professionals and non-health professionals alike.

Fantastic! A Brief but Comprehensive Pocket Guide on ECG For Laypersons (me) and Medical Professionals
I have no medical training. I do not have a professional relationship with Dr. Grauer.I have experienced many conversations with doctors and their staff related to a cardiac condition wherein I either did not understand what they were discussing or they failed to explain why the condition exists. This little guide totally enlightened me on how the heart functions, how basic ECG printouts are read, and what goes into the interpretation of those ECGs. This is an amazing pocket guide. Dr. Grauer's plain-spoken writing style is easy to comprehend regardless of the reader’s level of medical training. He has packed this book with easy-to-understand examples and illustrations. It is SO intriguing and easy to comprehend. It pulled me into turning pages to learn more. What is the best thing about this book for me as a layperson? I can now better communicate with my cardiologist/staff and my medical health care team regarding my health. Invaluable! I will be purchasing another copy for my granddaughter who is considering a medical career. I am confident that this pocket guide will be excellent for her as a beginning student and give her a head start on understanding heart functions as well as the basic hows and whys of ECG interpretation.I strongly recommend this book. It is well worth the price for invaluable information that will never become obsolete.

Wonderful First ECG Book
This newest book from Dr. Ken Grauer fills a big gap in the world of ECG books. For the non-medical person, it offers an interesting and entertaining explanation of what ECG is and what it does. Dr. Grauer even included some fascinating history of ECG. For medical professionals and students, this book offers an introduction to the topic and a great preparation for continuing study. I personally recommend Dr. Grauer's book, ECG Pocket Brain, 2014 once you have the basics down. For experienced medical professionals who don't work in a cardiac specialty, this book offers a great review of the basics. And, finally, for instructors, this is a good book to recommend to your students. The price is very affordable, it will reinforce the basic concepts you are teaching, and it is a very handy size, with spiral binding that allows the book to open fully.

Educational, easy to read
I am a cardiac patient and had numerous EKGs. The cardiologist tried to explain what was on the chart, but I was not sure I understood it completely. This book, written in an in style that a non-medical person can understand is very helpful. The large number of illustrations is very helpful. I would highly recommend this book to everybody with cardiac problems who wants to understand the the EKG graphs.I like the spiral binding, it is easy to keep the book open at any page.
