Bench Scraper Kitchen Tool - Food Scoop, Dough Scraper and Prep Taxi - Perfect Kitchen Gadget and Baking Tool For The Professional Chef

This prep taxi is one of the most useful items I have in my kitchen, and I use it daily. It is especially helpful in moving "mooshy" foods, like diced raspberries, for example, when the most cunningly designed kitchen tool ever conceived, the human hand, is of little help. It is also extremely helpful in moving very hot food items. In addition, just the other day, I dropped a raw egg onto the kitchen floor.... what a mess and what to do....? Prep taxi to the rescue...in a flash I'd scooped up the egg and shell and was ready for some soap and water.My arrival at procuring this item, however, was through two other Chef's Planet prep taxis, namely the less expensive plastic model, and a smaller-width model, constructed of a rubber/plastic that comes with a pair of insertable measuring cups. While the latter was better in transferring chopped foods to a narrow-mouthed vessel, both were exceedingly frustrating in that the blade edge was too thick and dull to successfully get under the food items. Not so with the stainless steel model. It scoops in a flash. It reminds me of why I like the thin-bladed spatulas of Mario Batali's "Italian Kitchen" series so much.In terms of design and balance, I have no concerns what-so-ever. In regards to food getting trapped under the handle, it's made of stainless steel - it'll last a thousand years: one run through the dishwasher should remove, or disarm, any threatening food particles.In addition, this stainless steel model functions as an excellent cutting-board scraper.Highly functional and recommended. (I have two on hand in my kitchen.)

I have some other bench scrapers, but this does the job for gathering chopped veggies to transfer to a skillet with no spill. Easy to use, easy to clean, and convenient to store, use it all the time,

The media could not be loaded. - If you’ve read any of the other reviews on the product you would think that this product has drainage issues and the lack of clearance under the handle that may cause food to get stuck and water to pool and cause this product to rust. On both accounts I am happy to say the previous reviews were wrong. The sides of the food scoop have drainage cut outs for water, and the opening beneath the handle inside of the scoop area is sizable enough to not allow food to get stuck. I primarily use this to practice knife cuts on potatoes, and will frequently do a fine brunoise to maximize the amount of cuts I can make per potato. For reference a fine brunoise is very very small cubed looking dice. 1/16” cubed. I haven’t yet to get any food stuck in the scoop and have to say of the other previous food scoops I’ve tried which did not have the side walls like this one has this is by far the better design for my application.- The scoop capacity from my testing will hold a large russet potato after I’ve cut it up. The finish is very smooth and has a nice feel in my hand. It makes quick work of transporting processed food off your cutting board and into your cooking pot! I would highly recommend it for home cooks and professionals.

The open handle is not an issue. First, the unit is large, so unless you have a huge pile to pick up, the food will not even reach the back. Second, the opening under the handle is also large, so food can easily be washed out or picked out, and water can leave the open area and the unit can dry. That is important. Because I read the reviews about the handle on this one, I first bought another similar one with a handle covered with silicone. That one is smaller, and there are tiny crevices between the silicone and the metal where food and moisture can get in and be trapped. THAT is a problem, but this one does not have that problem. With this one, the food and the moisture can easily get out. So the handle on this one is open for a good reason. This is large, sturdy, and well built. If you are deciding which food scooper to get, I recommend this one. I am very germ conscious, and it is clear to me that this one does not pose a problem. It picks up my food from the chopping board swiftly in one scoop, so I can transfer it. By the way this one is made in Taiwan, a democratic country. I gave it 4 stars because the railings on the side get in the way and prevent it from scraping the cutting board to corral the food together. So this does not function as a bench scraper except when scraping it backwards. In that case it works.

After reading the reviews I was on the fence, but gave it a try. It worked better than I expected, and I use it every time for transferring food from the cutting board to a bowl. Specifically, I was concerned about keeping the handle area clean, which turned out to not be an issue.- The scoop is large enough that food does not go all the way back to the handle unless you really try to push it there.- There is an opening under the handle that allows rinsing anything from under it. There is a gap on the sides which allow water to escape after rinsing. This was well thought through.- The folded sides are very helpful in not letting food fall off. You can cover the front with your hand, but not the sides because it's too large of an area, so folded sides do that work. Especially helpful to prevent dripping juice for example when moving diced tomatoes.- Handle design allows the scoop to sit flat on the cutting board, so you don't have to push food uphill when loading.- No rust, staining or any other concerns from several weeks worth of use.

This is the kind of thing I went 28 years on Earth without, and once I owned one, I was unsure how I ever made it without. I found a different version at Sur La Table and have used it every day since. Whenever people are over while I'm cooking they comment on how useful it is. I ended up purchasing this one as a gift. I'm paleo and cook almost all of my own food at home. This means I cut ALOT of vegetables. Transferring the veggies to the pan was always daunting. I'd try to gather them in my hands, could never get them all, and always dropped some on the floor. This thing is amazing. I scoop everything up and throw it in the pan in seconds. Plus, I can scrape the scraps off of the cutting board to be thrown away. This is a must have in my Kitchen.

Works great and has made cooking prep a lot easier. Well made product and easy to clean.
