Reasonably priced, superb candle - IF - one follows the manufacturers instructions.
First let me address the negative reviews:1. "Smokes like crazy." Yes but only if you are burning a low-purified fuel or, most likely, the wick is set too high.2. "Be careful with the fuel . . . ." As noted in reviewer's experience with Firefly Clean Lamp Oil: " Produce[s] some kind of invisible residue." The only residue it can produces is soot, which is the result of incomplete combustion, i.e., the wick is set too high.3. "Used olive oil and the wick immediately burnt out." Same thing probably happens with motor oil and transmission fluid. Duh . . . .4. "Missing wick." Did you notice that, as of two months after the company reached out to the customer, the customer still had not responded? Let's call this a fake review.5. "Just what I thought it would be ...works well." Lives up to expectations and works well and deserves only three stars?6. "Doesn't come with fuel." My pellet stove did not come with pellets, my coffee maker did not come with coffee, my Zippo did not come with lighter fluid, my safety razor did not come with blades, and my pressure cooker did not come with a pot roast. So I gave them all one star! Holy cow! These are glass pillar candles. The dimensions of the candles I received are 2-3/4 inches wide and 6-1/4 inches high. They use a 3.6mm (a hair over 1/8") wick (supplied) that is held in place by a metal collet that inserts into the opening of the candle. The volume of the candles I received is slightly over 18 ounces. Burn time per ounce is going to depend on the height of the wick, purity/grade of the fuel, and air currents in the room. I am experiencing proximately five hours per ounce of fuel.As noted by the instructions that accompany the candle, wick height is critical. On my candles, the wick is extends above the collet slightly less than 1/16 of an inch. I arrived at this setting after trial and error, starting slightly over 1/16 of an inch. When first lit, the candle produces a tiny flame, which, at first, seems to command more wick. But, as noted by the manufacturer, after four-five minutes, the flame grows to about 3/4 of an inch at which point it does not smoke. Extending the wick much beyond 1/16 of an inch will produce smoking/odor, more or less, depending on the fuel. For me, a 3/4- to 1-inch flame is fine. Smoking will also occur if the flame dances in face of moderate turbulence, as will any candle. As seen in the images, the candle is a plain, unobtrusive cylinder, i.e., it will blend in with anything. That suits me because I am interested in the ambiance produced by the flame and not the design of the candle. I used to burn 1-1/2-inch beeswax candles with followers but their cost is becoming prohibitive, at least for me. I have not had success with Stearine (from animal fat) candles as, in my experience, they do not burn evenly and, therefore, cannot be used with followers. Thus, I purchased these glass pillar candles as an alternative and am very pleased with the result. For the best results, follow the manufacturer's directions to a "T" and be satisfied with a 3/4-to 1-inch smokeless, odorless flame.Ed

elegant oil candles, simple but well-made
I love oil candles, and these are nicely made. They burn cleanly without smoke or odor, whether you use pure liquid paraffin or Firefly's proprietary oil (don't use any other fuel, though). The glass is plain but elegant, neither too thick or too fragile. The chimneys are metal (aluminum, I think) and avoid the pitfalls of glass chimneys (they always break sooner or later) yet look nice. The wick is thick enough, and stays in the chimney while allowing the flame to be adjustable without too much difficulty. After several hours burning the glass top around the chimney is warm to touch, but the rest of the candle remains cool.Filling oil candles is a pain, however. Unlike water, which has surface tension causing it to adhere to itself (hence, raindrops) lamp oil is "thin" and runs in all directions. The tiny funnel provided with these is completely inadequate--I have some larger ones that are better, but filling is still usually a mess. A squeeze bottle with an angled fill spout is available, but unfortunately is outrageously priced for what it is. But that is a minor issue here. Fill in a sink, and carefully wipe the candle after filling, or the oil might mar the surface where the candle is placed. Then enjoy your oil candle.

A Bit Pricey But With Care It Will Last a Lifetime
Very nice. I have been looking for a liquid paraffin candle for some time. They used to be quite popular and easy to find but with time that has changed. This set is very classy and would add to the decor of any home. It is glass, and therefore fragile, and must be handled with care. I put the squirter lid on the bottle of paraffin and filled the first candle half full. That took quite a while so I think I will try the funnel next. In squirting the liquid into the candle, it did manage to get on top of the candle, due to a drip from the bottle and down the side. Well, that liquid is so slippery and I nearly dropped the candle. I did manage to clean the outside of the glass and all is fine, but if you do get some liquid on the outside of the candle, be very careful not to drop it. As you see from the picture, it is a beauty. I have yet to fire up the mid-sized and large one as of yet. Very nice packaging and arrived in mint condition. I tip my hat to their fine workmanship.

I love it, however…
It’s gorgeous, minimalist and does not smoke. I was surprised the top just perches there, I thought it would be attached in some way, and that’s a little dangerous. It would have been amazing if they’d included a few replacements wicks, there was only one.

Elegant!!
These are just so lovely! High quality blown glass with easily removable stems/wicks. The sizes are a nice variety. They come with excellent instructions and follow up from Firefly Fuel. The flame burns steady and there is no smoke or odor. The only bummer is that it's difficult to find liquid paraffin fuel locally and while the cost of the fuel itself is reasonable, the shipping for it makes it kind of costly. I've read that restaurant supply places sometimes carry this sort of fuel, so I will look there. That aside, these are gorgeous and elegant, and I wouldn't hesitate in giving them as gifts for weddings or other important celebrations. If you enjoy quality and beauty, you will find them here.

heavy smoke
Used the oil that came with the set, first there was a huge flame...turns out you have to cut the wick super short. Still the flame is scaringly big. And then there's the smoke! Lots of black smoke coming from the flame. Doesnt seem healthy to me, any my ceiling will be black soon.I'm disappointed, sure won't use this inside. 😕
