I really don’t know what it’s made of, but I don’t think it’s plastic. Whatever it is is covered with some kind of paper. It seems to be well made and pretty sturdy. It probably wouldn’t hold up if it were dropped a lot, but for the price, I think it’s great. My 5 year-old will love it and take care of it.
