Sony DCR-SR68 80GB Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorder (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Excellent camera, the performance is very good, I have served for many things at home and to record videos that are very interesting, it has very good optical zoom, the digital screen has an excellent resolution and is excellent, you can see it in detail even with a lot of external light! It is very good I recommend it.

have not used the camcorder for anything big, but what I have taken has been very clear and easy to use even for me as I am not hep on all the new gadgets, It is very small and cute, I love it. I am using it next week on a trip so will know better then, but as of now would buy it again.

I had been looking for a second video camera, one with a sizeable internal hard drive to store a lot of footage. I was partial to Sony, having purchased many Sony products over the years that gave good service. I did my homework and checked out reviews and Tech websites. Finally I settled on this camcorder. When it arrived, I was excited to test it out. I took some footage of my garden, about one minute. Then I downloaded the clip into my computer. Gasp! It didn't look crisp and clear. It looked hazy and fuzzy. To compare, I took a comparable video with my other camcorder and downloaded it into my computer. Much different. Better! Crisper! Clearer! What I had been used to. The second camera, let me say, is also a Sony, but one that uses mini-video-tape. I compared the size of the files downloaded on my computer, each roughly one minute long. Whereas the file from the old Sony was about 276 MB's, the file from the new camcorder was about 75 MB's, about one-fourth the size, more compressed. No wonder!! I called Sony, and registered my complaint. No comment or suggestion on how to improve performance. I called Vanns, the vendor, to arrange a return. The only good thing about the transaction was the great service from Vanns. A prompt refund. No questions asked. Of course, I had to pay the return postage. I saw some very glowing reviews on this product before I bought it. The only thing I can say is these people probably had nothing to compare the quality of the video to. Otherwise, I can't imagine how anyone can think that this is a camcorder that delivers high-quality or even decent-quality videos.

Very well made camera. My only complaint is that it does not have a remote control for use with editing.

This was a clearance camera and seems to work well. However, it came without manual, cables, battery or charger (I ordered them separately) so I docked the rating a little. It is small, lightweight, and easy to figure out how to operate if you ever owned a camcorder. The main advantage is the internal HDD. 80 GB is huge. Downloading video clips to my PC hard drive is as easy, if not easier, than pulling a stick from a digital camera and inserting it into the card reader. Just connect the download cable to the PC with a USB and cut/paste the vid clips into whatever folder you create on your PC. Vid quality is very good; no complaints. The zoom is also very good and retains clarity of the image. So far, so good!

I used it daily to weekly until 2017 when the power cable became lose. Sony wanted over $250 to fix the Camcorder. A new SONY FRD-AX53 was purchased and it was unsuccessful for creating our Educational DVDs. So we repurchased the DCR-SR68 again. I have stopping complaining and our production work continues. I believe SONY has made a bad product decision in discontinuing an excellent product.

Big scratches all over the body, poor instruction, low picture quality, shaky poor anti vibration not good cosmetically

This is great little camcorder. I bought it for the internal hard drive and have been pleased with what it does. I mentioned in the title that it was a good picture, not great. I do alot of sports games and it handles them ok, but I am sure there are better camcorders for this use.For the money, this is a nice little camera that is easy to use and stores lots of memory. I like it.
