Tango Argentino

I don't often write reviews . . . but Tango Argentino . . . WOW!
I got this CD on a whim; it arrived just before we were to take a car trip so, I unwrapped it and took it along. I put it in the CD player about halfway to our destination--from the opening notes I knew I was onto something spectacular. Each piece seemed to increase the pleasure; by the time I reached track 13 Piazzolla's "Midnight in Buenos Aires" I was hooked worse than a heroin addict. I've listened to it a dozen times since and it dosen't get stale. Who ever wrote the "product info" blurb at the middle of the page was right. If you can be still during Mores "Military Tap" you'd better check your pulse 'cause you might be dead!I want to see some detailed photos of Victor Villadangos; I'm convinced that he has a minimum of three arms with six digits on each hand. He is trully remarkable on this album (as he is on on "Lauro Guitar Music 2"). I think this is fast becoming one of my "desert island discs".For all of you who remember the original "Addams Family", give this album a listen and you'll understand why Gomez behaved as he did whenever he heard a Tango!

Relaxing and Creative
I wish this was recorded with a higher volume output. It needs to be played by itself since I need to turn up the volume. I'm not sure how much of this is Tango but it is a great, relaxing and creatively played classical type guitar album.

Excellent!
Great music for tango, real tango. Victor Villadangos is best. Love it so much. Very musically. And I think anyone interested will enjoy this.

OLE
This is a wonderful album of acoustic guitar music. I've always loved the Tango and the so-called "classical" guitar. This album brings them together delightfully. The album transports me to a smoke-filled Argentinean nightclub where the Tango is danced very passionately. I agree with the review to this album; tract 13 is wonderful. If you are into the Tango or guitar music or just want to be transported, in your mind, to a different time and place, buy this disc.

Tango
It just does not seem to be what I expected. Now I must enter at least 10 more words to complete this part.

A "must have" CD for the Tango & Classical Guitar lovers!
I really like how Villadangos plays and arranges tango on the guitar, his arrangements of Piazzolla, Gardel, J. Plaza, etc in this CD are really well accomplished! Without a doubt this will be one of my most heard CDs

Great for listening, not for dancing.
Not really Tango dancing music, but excellent instrumental guitar for more passive enjoyment. Buy for listening, not for dancing - but you should buy it.

This disc makes an excellent introduction into the Argentinian world of both the Tango and also of the Argentinian guitar
There are an increasing number of solo guitar discs featuring the music of various parts of South America. This selection of 18 tangos is a typical and good example of the genre and would serve as an excellent introduction to a selection of the 'classical' guitar music of Argentina. The 18 tracks on this disc feature the music of eleven Argentinian composers. Of these one third feature the music of Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) who is generally held in such esteem that this bias is completely justifiable. Of the remaining ten composers only Carlos Gardel (1887-1935) and Julian Plaza (1928-2003) are granted two tracks each. Otherwise each composer is represented with one characteristic tango composition. The overall selection presented here is surprisingly wide-ranging in terms of tempo and mood so the disc makes for engaging general interest as well as providing enough musical substance to engage the attention further still. At this point it must be acknowledged that the sleeve notes are a model of sleeve-note writing. They are written to describe each composer and composition in the order of play as appropriate. The information is written from the point of view of complete understanding of the topic and with the intention of imparting enough of the information to be completely helpful and engaging. It therefore does not come as any surprise to find that the writer is none other than Victor Villadangos, the guitar soloist himself.Victor Villadangos is professor of guitar at the Conservatorio Juan Jose Castro and Conservatorio Manuel de Falla de Buenos Aires, and is as expert a player as his academic positions imply. His playing is clearly instinctively idiomatic and both gently lyrical and rhythmically incisive as required. The 2001 recording places the guitar within a totally believable acoustic and without inflating the sound to that of a 'jumbo' guitar. This makes it much easier for the listener to appreciate the music and playing on offer here. The tango is not the whole story of Argentinian guitar music, let alone that of South America, but it delivers an interesting and varied compilation which may well encourage purchasers to widen their interest in Argentinian guitar music further still. There are two such albums currently available and both played by Victor Villadangos. In summary, this disc makes an excellent introduction into the Argentinian world of both the Tango and also of the Argentinian style of 'classical' guitar.

Tango like you've never heard
If like me you find an accordian cheesy and have never much bothered with tango music, this album is a revelation. Villadangos' arrangements and performances are both sensitive and evocative. The Piazzolla arrangements in particular are a joy, especially midnight in Buenos Aires which is very atmospheric. The player has developed his own way if playing rhythms on the sound box of the guitar that add hugely to the tonal experience. I also very much enjoyed the ballad The Day you Love me. For the money you won't get a better selection of music than this.

Great tunes if you like this style of music - perhaps not as tango as I thought but that's probably my ignorance.
