Buy this product and then follow these hacks to make it great.
First let me tell you I am a care giver for someone with Alzheimer's. I am a designer, inventor, and teacher. On the IQ test 15 SD Percentile, 1.65% of people tested, achieved a higher score than mine, so there is a chance someone could come up with a more insightful review. The cups work great! Spill proof? Yes! But do not pour past the 7 ounce fill line. Seven ounces is a problem in it's self if you are pouring a standard 8 oz bottle of product.{Ensure, Boost etc.} You cannot force the last ounce into the cup past the fill line, it will ooze from the top after assembly {by nature of the design}, by way of the lid, at the straws port of entry. It is not a well thought out design in that respect.Care givers have enough to do without waiting for partial consumption of product, cup disassembly, followed by pouring the last ounce, followed by cup reassembly, to utilize that last ounce of product. Leak proof ? Not so much! You can only tighten the lid down snug with out damaging the threads. You have to understand spills are a thing of the past with this product. Leaks are different. This product does eliminate spills, on table tops or dropped on the floor, no worries, simply by setting the cup into an upright potion soon after tipped. Yeah!! Good job Kennedy Cup! The problem is leaving someone in bed unattended with this cup. The connection between cup and lid, slowly leaks, if tipped on it's side, soaking the bed, or the person in the bed. But there is a solution if you plan on leaving the cup unattended with someone with motor control or memory loss issues!with this simple hack, order a silicone gasket 3 5/8" diameter from another vendor to complete the total assembly. A common flexible straw works, but I found that of the 7 ounces of liquid it holds, using the standard flex straw in the common way, {meaning flex end protruding from the lid} leaves an ounce or more in the bottom of the cup, if drank in a somewhat reclined position. So now there is 1 ounce of product you couldn't or didn't put in the cup and an ounce left in the bottom of the cup, $0.30 worth of product {Ensure} twice a day or $0.60 x 365 days = $219 wasted, not to mention the health benefits that aren't metabolized by the two ounces of unconsumed product. One might try inserting the flex straw upside down. This works somewhat better, but not perfectly while drinking in a reclined position. The solution or hack is quite simple, first cut two flex straws to the proper length which may take some trial and error sliding one straw into the other so there is a flexible portion on both ends. This takes care of the last ounce issue in a reclined position and utilizes the flex straws original design function. Once you have your prototype designed for your straw, make a bunch of them ahead of time and dispose after use, or put them in the dishwasher for sanitation, and use them until they wear out. The 7 ounce cup and the 8 ounce product issue hack, fill the cup with the 8 ounces of product, put the straw in the cup, have the consumer of the product drink more than an ounce, while you hold the cup for them. Put on the lid without removing the straw, hand them the cup and go do something else. Kennedy cups aren't perfect, but they are the best thing out there. With some ingenuity and upgrades Kennedy Cups do the intended job. This is why I give this product 5 stars. If it were designed to hold 8.5 to 9 ounces of product, come with a silicone gasket and double end flexing disposable straw, or at least have up grade buying options available from the same vendor it would be a more perfect cup. One last hack; cut a thick foam construction 12 oz. can cozy to fit the lower part of the cup, making it more stable on table tops, less slippery when handling, easier to hold for physically challenged individuals and adds protection against extremely hot beverages or body heat robbing cold beverages, holding a cold cup sometimes presents a problem with arthritis sufferers and others with various medical conditions.
