Works for what it is supposed to do but it is pricy.
I did not have this part in my system, so I purchased it separately. It's a better platform than my grinder had on it so sharpening some tools is much easier. While black in color, I'm pretty sure it is made of gold.

Love it
Unlike the one that came with my full set, the stage is reasonably flat. The original was curved enough to effect free hand plane iron grinding. I did flatten it. Second stage lets me move right from my course flat CBN wheel to my finer one.

Additional rest
Used one of these for years but hated changing the angle each time. This one will be used solely for my skew chisels.

Solid construction
I have a few of these permanently set to different tools. Great time saver.

Solid but needs a bit of prep
This is a very solid tool rest. It does, however, need a bit of work as delivered.The platform does not sit totally square to the wheel. A bit of tweaking is required to square it up.Also, the platform suffers from a bit of a bulge due to heat distortion from the weld. If you want accurate and consistent grinds on your tools and chisels, you will need to put some effort into grinding or sanding it flat.Once you get it cleaned up and square, it is a very solid platform and easy to adjust.
