Kaitlyn and the Highlander

Form your own opinion
When I first started reading this series, I had some questions about how the group didn’t have more questions about this strange man being on the doorstep. But I pushed through the questions and just kept reading. So glad I did. Is it a literary genius .. no… is it fun reading… yes. People are comparing to Outlander, if that’s what you want, then this is not it. Where Outlander is dark and dreary, this is light and fun and takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. But don’t take it from me, read a couple of the books and form your own opinion.

Great series!!
I love this whole series! I prefer reading book series over singles, and this is one I keep coming back to when I need something to read. I also love how Diana Knightley interacts with her readers on Facebook.

Such an exciting book
Think of Outlander… but backwards. He travels to meet her. Oh such a good book. My only wish is that the physical traits of each character were described better so I could have a better picture of what they look like.

SERIOUSLY- Save your time and money!
After rereading other reviews to try to figure out HOW this possibly got 4.5 stars - I still don't get it. I'm going to copy a review that says what I'm thinking very well & what I WISH someone had told me! First, there is absolutely no level of artistry or immitation of adult literature. Next, even if you are drawn to anything with time travel involved, and you loved Outlander, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE GOOD REVIEWS!Those great reviews say that it’s a fun book that is not a rip-off of Outlander, BUT-- it is EXACTLY that! A very silly fiction for teens who haven't a clue about good writing; yet the explicit trashtalk shouldn't be subjected to them. Supposedly told by a very modern day girl (not woman) who drinks A LOT, uses lots of (soon to be dated) slang, and used to be a YouTube influencer. The book wasn’t fun. The fun of a time travel book is making the time travel kind-of possible, as well as the reaction of both the traveler AND the recieving person somewhat explained. The Highlander mysteriously arrives in a Florida beach town-the only time travel-in front of a crowd of people, who- don't really question how or why a guy on a horse with weapons just appears? They just assume he's in costume- though he makes it obvious from his speech & lack of understanding his surroundings- yet nobody really questions him other than to drunkenly notice how mega hawt he is. We don't experience it from his perspective, and no one figures out he time traveled?? Any hints (which would be a good part of an actual story) are brushed off as "maybe things are really backwards in Scotland"!! All Kaitlyn would need to do is Google Scotland, (also my 1st thought as I read), or YouTube video Scotland, anything... to start to question the circumstances of a guy and his mother who come to your door in old clothes, with a sword and with no knowledge of any modern convenience.Magnus, the Highlander, for his part adapts MUCH too easily to modern life. The adaption to a different time period is a big part of the attraction to time travel novels! He brings coins from the past, and instead of someone questioning how he comes to have them, or tries to steal them; Kaitlyn’s parents- who conveniently work in a bank and in real estate- quickly (in ONE DAY) convert them into a massive bank account that pays for an estate for Magnus and his mother, along with hiring a staff to do all the things he hasn't a clue about. No ID required. I wondered how his mother coped with the modern hospital she was put in right away. Another chance to explain adapting missed. He becomes attracted to the very modern Kaitlyn, but has no lingering prior-century attitudes towards appropriate female behavior? Especially being in public with all her legs showing? And her trashy language?I have a rule about finishing every book I start.. Regardless how many times I have to put it down & pick it back up. But I must admit I finally began skimming after I had suffered through WAY TOO NUMEROUS drunken parties and occasions when Kaitlyn should have questioned Magnus’ previous life. Finally, near the end of the book, I saw a bit of time travel, and I thought, Okay, Kaitlyn will get sucked back in time, and the culture clash will begin. Nope. I was just left with Kaitlyn mooning over a mysteriously disappeared Magnus. Ugh. At least during her mooning, she finally realizes that Magnus is a time traveler, which she oddly accepts easily for being so belated.I skim to the very end thinking, the author will at least end with Kaitlyn going somewhere in time. Nope. I then realize I'd read a whole book about a boozy young girl who doesn’t think it’s odd she has to teach a guy from Scotland how to use a toilet and feed himself, (perhaps if she wasn't in a perpetual hangover she may have given this some thought?)But with her crude modern jokes and self-described bossy attitude; as well as always being pouty about being a 23 year old loser with no real life skill who is living at home again, she manages to attract him and his money.Upon finishing, my only thought was this: Someone must warn others away. I'm still confused where any high scores came from. It's kind of scary to realize this many people let this pass for readable literature.

Great series !
So I was hesitant on ordering . I decided I’ll try the first two books . I love outlander , love the series . I was worried it was going to be so similar that it would feel like a rip off. Well I started book 1 , three months ago and im one book 7 . Ordering 8 and 9 now. Yes it is very similar. Reading the first book I have said at times ugh a total rip off. But im glad I didn’t stop reading and kept going. It continued to get better and break off into its own series and away from the copy of outlander. It’s a very good read . If your a huge outlander fan than stick with it the series gets really good and differs from outlander . Love the fact Magnus comes future . Would 100 percent recommend with series , tying to get my teen to read it as we speak :) if tempted buy it! But get first two or three books as it will go fast and won’t be able to put it down.

Fun, Romantic read!
Some of the negative reviews are correct in what they say - “it’s not Outlander” correct, it is not like Outlander but nowhere that I’ve seen does it say it is, this series is about a modern day time travelling couple, the characters are totally different to Claire & Jamie in personality and age. The storyline about what Kaitlyn & Magnus do & where they go is very, very different. The reviews that say - “the main character Kaitlyn is annoying, self obsessed & immature” are also totally true! It’s part of the story how a modern day American girl with an Instagram following & relationship problems adapts to being married to a time travelling, sword carrying Scotsman from the past. What I discovered a long time ago about reading is that you don’t actually have to like the characters to enjoy a book, their personality is all part of the story.I mean Bridget Jones was a pretty pathetic character but it didn’t stop the story being good! The books are easy to read, they are fun and romantic and adventurous. There is emphasis on time travel and the technicalities of it so there is the fantasy aspect and there is also lots of historic detail and modern day references in equal balance! In a nutshell, don’t expect a heavy historical novel like Outlander because you will be disappointed, go in expecting a modern day adventure that involves time travel and you’ll love it!

Do I like it? Aye, Yes!
This is the beginning of the epic story featuring Kaitlyn and Magnus. And what a journey.I'm not great with reviews but give this a go! You won't be sorry.I was left wanting more at the end and thank goodness Diana Knightley didn't let me down. On to book 2.....5 gold starsI have re read this book twice, I needed to:A. Because its awesomeB. Because the more you get into the series you have to go back (like Magnus and Katie) if like me you couldn't put the book down and found yourself in the morning with your kindle on the floor. Sometimes you miss a little detail that becomes a big issue later on.C. Did I say awesome? If your unsure, find yourself a storm and go with it!Diana Knightly has given you a treat, enjoy it.

One of my favourite book series!
I’ve read all 11 books (waiting on book 12), and this is one of my favourite book series. Book 1 is very good, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg compared to the other books. Even if you aren’t that hooked after book 1, I highly recommend it, as it just gets better and better! One of the reasons why I love this book series so much, is because it takes place in so many different centuries! They have to deal with issues from The past, the past-past, the present, the future and the future-future. Which is what makes it so unique and exciting.Yes the heroine may be immature, but she matures a lot thought the books, which is one of the reasons I can say that these books have great character development. The other books also have many great mind-blowing twists, so you really wanna keep reading after book 1, otherwise you are missing out on an amazing story. And no it’s nothing like Outlander, (Even though I love Outlander and KATH), I actually think the Kaitlyn and the Highlander series is probably a bit better than Outlander.

Dream with your heart
I love time travel romance. It allows you to dream and let go of your inner self. I have always wanted to experience a romance of this nature. I may dream big but I love with all that I have. This series has touched my heart in so many ways. It’s a breath of fresh air to find a new author who I love to read and to dream.
