I bought this to wire in an old Android phone as a tracker in my car. I was concerned about the residual current drain once my phone is charged, so I did some tests.I connected this gadget (Ytesky 12V to 5V 3A Dual USB Power Supply) to a 12 volt power supply to measure the current. It registers zero current when there is no usb device connected to its outlet. ie. The residual current drawer from this when no usb device is connected is less than 10mA (that's what I can measure down to). If you consider that a car's interior light takes about an amp (which is 100x 10mA), then I think you could say this gadget would last quite a few weeks without discharging an unused car battery by any appreciable amount.Then I tried out my Android phone powered from the usb side, and measured the current on the 12V side. My phone pulls about 0.6A from the 12V (I don't know what it takes on the USB side, but that's irrelevant for this test). Once the phone is fully charged, then the current draw, on the 12V side, drops to less than 10mA again. The phone is constantly using power, so every five minutes or so, the it goes into charging mode and the 12V side takes a few mA for less than a minute, then drops to zero again. Hopefully, that means I won't get a flat car battery by leaving my phone plugged in all the time, I don't think so. We shall see, and I may report back on this.I tried the same test with an Android tablet, and always seems to draw current, even when charged, so I won't be permanently wiring that.The charger gets very slightly warm whilst charging my phone, but nothing to be alarmed at. If at least one side rests against something solid, then I don't think you'll have bother with it getting too hot. I wouldn't wrap it in foam padding or thermal insulation though.Also, if anyone wants to try a phone for tracking, this is my setup...- This charger gadget permanently wired into my car,- an old android phone which I wiped all data and apps.- new google account just for my phone (preferred but not needed)- giffgaff sim topped up with credit (costs 5p/mB), 1p mobile is cheaper at 1p/mB though.- installed life360, which is a lot quicker than google location sharing, but uses more data (we'll see how that goes)- installed NoRootFirewall on the phone to block all apps except essential google apps and life360 (to limit data use).In all it appears to use about 1.5 to 2mB a day (not tried with life360 yet). A small cost, and now there's a hidden backup phone in my car should I need it.I hope this proves useful to someone! Kind regards, Stuart :)

Great item easy to install A+++

I bought this to power a dash cam but at first I couldn't get it to work. The usb cable I was using worked when plugged into a cigarette lighter socket usb adaptor but not when plugged into this items usb port. After much head scratching and Google searches I found you need to tape off the middle contacts on the usb port just leaving the far left and right contacts. My dash cam worked perfectly after that.

The plastic housing unit gets very hot 🔥 & plastic starts to bulge out.

This did exactly what I needed, allowing me to run a 12v and a 5v lighting system from one plug

This is a great little device, these should be installed in work cars and vans... no need for ignition on wasting the battery, it barely touches the volts on my battery when leaving my phone and headphones charging all night. Worth every penny!

Gutes Produkt.Für den Motorradbereich sind die USB Stecker nicht geeignet.Habe mir eine entsprechende, wasserdichte, Industriestecklösung selbst adaptiert.Zwar keine Garantie mehr dadurch, aber dafür eine stabile Stromversorgung für die GoPro.Und bei dem Preis verschmerzbar.

Arrivato in tempi record ho già montato il tutto sulla moto e funziona benissimo devo solo provare in viaggio come va se ho risolto il problema dei picchi di corrente che mi bloccavano il navigatore
