While looking at the reflective/data side of your disc, hold it up to a bright light. If you can see light coming through the disc in tiny holes or scratches, the disc is irreparable in that area. Repairable scratches to the business side of your disc will have a reflection, or double appearance, while deep scratches that affect the reflective layer of the disc have no reflection.
