Moxie (Images of America)

Nicely documented history of the iconic Moxie tonic drink
My Irish grandmother consumed a few ounces of Moxie each evening in the 1940s as a digestive aid. She tried to encourage (unsuccessfully) us kids to take a sip when we had a tummy ache. The "Moxie" book was professionally researched, written and formatted. The text provides a historical chronology describing Moxie's role in "Americana". I loved the pictures! Didn't realize Moxie's competitors, with their casual inclusion of alcohol and other curious ingredients, helped create the need for the FDA. Good read; loved the book, but still can't handle the curious taste of Moxie.

A great visual history!
Growing up in Northern New England drinking Moxie always garnered special comments. I lived but a few miles from the Moxie bottle house in Manchester, NH. What was in Moxie was usually a topic of lively conversation.Dennis Sasseville and Merrill Lewis have assembled a great visual history of the exotic beverage. This book will make great reading for Moxie fans, general historians and anybody interested in business and especially American capitalism.A Yankee,Gerard GagnonBedford, NH

A distinctively different book about an iconic New England beverage
If you're the kind of person who makes your kids and grandkids sample Moxie because "it'll be good for them," then you'll enjoy this visually-dense book about the history of this iconic New England beverage. Sasseville and Lewis have done a great job illustrating the story behind this distinctively different drink that is loved by many, but is not for everyone. If you actually drink Moxie, and enjoy it, then you'll no doubt enjoy this book, too.

Solid, Fun History
Long-awaited history that includes copious illustrations and photographs not in previous ones. A great review of all those great Moxie ads over the years. Moxie with steamers! Moxie with fish! Moxie with lamb, boiled dinner, or to keep the family in good health. You also get a good history of patent medicines, changes in recipe and bottling, and all the evidence you need for how deeply Moxie penetrated New England culture and hangs on to this day.
