Great product and usable on aluminum ladders
I needed to get into trees higher than typical step adders allow and stumbled across this product. My Werner aluminum extension ladder side rails are 1/2" wider distance than the new V-rung adjustment allows and I had to modify the install.- First I used the included pre-drilled plates as a template for the new mounting I required and drilled the holes perpendicular to top of the side rails and parallel to the ladder's scuff guard end cap.- Second- I assembled the new V-rung (left side to left side, right side to right side) and discovered the mounted angle was towards the bottom of the ladder instead of angled towards the top. This simply requires flipping the whole assembly side-to-side and now the angle is correct.- Third I added 1/4" of aluminum flat stock to each side between the new V-rung assembly and ladder side rails to make up for the greater width of my ladders rungs. This also required replacement of the mounting screws with 1" long #10 stainless and nyloc nuts.I was in 4 trees this morning at a ladder height of 14' above ground and the ladder was very stable. Note I also strapped the ladder to the tree using a small load binder strap 3' down from the top of the ladder to ensure safety.

It works, but it's tricky to assemble
Yes, this does make a very stable ladder on a tree. I have a 28 ft ladder & it's very scary to climb up to the top with the top of the ladder wiggling back & forth. This really helps a lot. Make sure you also tie the top of the ladder to the tree with a strap just to be safe. I was impressed at the engineering of this accessory. It's designed to make your assembly easier by making the frame hold the locknuts still while you tighten the bolts from the outside. That was a very nice touch & much appreciated. The instructions DON'T tell you everything you need to know to assemble the v-rung correctly. There's 2 triangles you must mount onto the rung & they are not symmetrical. It's very easy to just assemble them according to the illustrations, install it onto the top of the ladder, then run the extension ladder up the tree only to find out the v-rung is 180⁰ off. So then you have to take the ladder down, remove the v-rung, & try again. My suggestion is, when installing on the ladder, make sure that the v-rung is pointing upward towards the tree at about a 45⁰ angle. They don't tell you anything about that in the instructions because they assume everyone knows that. Be forwarned.

Safe
This worked well for me. It wraps around a 18" pole just fine and gave me a little extra confidence when climbing.

It works on my Werner ladder...
This enhancement to my ladder isn't as good as having someone else do my work, but it absolutely improved the stability of my ladder when leaned against a tree trunk. Much cheaper than the ER.

Fairly universal- but might need modifications
Bought this for a Werner FE1016-2 blue 16' extension ladder. It wasn't specifically listed in the compatibility chart but thought it was worth a shot. The main saddle bracket has slots for adjusting to different size ladders. The FE1016-2 ladder is slightly too narrow to use the slots. I was able to flip the aluminum triangle brackets at either end and drill new mounting holes to attach to the fiberglass. Factory screws and hardware did fit properly.Your ladder may not have existing accessory holes predrilled in the fiberglass rails. Be prepared to drill a pair of 3/16" holes on each rail. They need to be perfectly located- there is no slop and it is critical. I would recommend rated fiberglass gel coat to seal the exposed fibers at the drill points.Overall it took a little bit of alteration but I'm happy. If you are not comfortable and qualified to fabricate things of this nature- I recommend you make sure your ladder is 100% compatible or call Werner customer support.

Had to make some modifications, but well worth it!
This V rung was just a bit short for my Werner, aluminum 36’ extension ladder. A relatively simple fix was to fabricate 4 aluminum plates to expand the inner rail. You’ll need to replace the 3/4” bolts with 1” Stainless steel bolts to accommodate the extra width. Worked like a charm and the ladder works very well too. Hope this can help someone if you run into a similar bind.

Secure Ladder Accessory
I disliked that it was a non universal fit, although in most cases, one can make it fit. I followed the modification instructions of "Right Connections1" in the comments section of Amazon and modified the V Rung Accessory so it would fit my 24 ft Werner aluminum extension ladder. If Werner employed a slide instead of bolt holes on the universal brackets like they did for the V-Rung, it would be a lot easier to adjust to different width ladders. Now it's just two drill holes; one of those holes you have to ignore, then drill another on the brackets to increase the width capability of the V-Rung Accessory. I would also recommend attaching a snap-on strap from the latter to the pole it is leaning against. It seemed to stabilize the ladder much more. Last recommendation, have a spotter if you can.The cost of the Werner accessory was well worth it - a lot cheaper than renting a "cherry picker" to change bulbs. As a P.S., I used Loctite threadlocker (removable) on all screws and bolts. One can buy on Amazon.

AWESOME TOOL
I trim my own Palm Trees and this item is a must. Really stabilizes your ladder and gives you sense of security on the ladder sliding off . Best purchase I have made on Amazon based on others comments. Really satisfied with product. Easy to install and seems well made.
