You think you know the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men, but you have no idea. Within the first minute of their new single 'Alligator' you'll be wondering if this huge anthem is the brainchild of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs fronting Arcade Fire -all thumping drums, brimming guitars and a call-to-arms chorus about taking control. During a day of final mixing at the LA studio of their co-producer Rich Costey (MUSE, Vampire Weekend, Chvrches), the five-piece gather in stages.

Total misstep
Instead of innovating and building upon the great foundation laid by pervious works of monster and men fumble their way through a bland synth pop mess without any of the charm found in my head is an animal or beneath the skin. Not worth your time skip it and wait for the next one

Entirely different yet somehow the same where it counts.
I loved their first album, and I think I'll always love their folk sound more then anything else. The second album was quite a diversion from that, and this one I think even more so. That said, the first album was perfect for me; something I could listen to again and again on repeat without it ever getting old. The second album had some songs I really enjoyed, but I didn't feel quite had the same level of listenability. This one however... I don't know. It took me a bit to get used to, but I'm warming up to it quickly and there's no songs I've not enjoyed. The sound is altogether completely different, but I'm warming up to quickly and I'm quite honestly enjoying it a hell of a lot more then I expected after the release of their first song. I'm just glad I gave it a fair shake since it's shaping up to be one of my favorite new albums this year.

No digital download?
Overall, this was a pretty good album. I was not disappointed with the music. However, I was disappointed not to receive a digital download with the vinyl. I prefer to listen to music on vinyl. However, let's be honest, vinyl is not the most practical of music mediums. It would be nice to be able to listen to this album on the move. Please include a digital download. It's a small but important gesture of gratitude to fans who care enough about the music to purchase it in it's most expensive format.

Did their producer talk them into forgetting their roots?
With the success of their first album, I hoped their second attempt would be close to as good as the first but to my surprise it was even better. In fact, it was phenomenal. So my eager anticipation for the third attempt was difficult to hold back. Alas, it arrived and the debut track was more of the same, great grandeur. The rest? meh.

Eh, it’s ok I guess
I kinda regret buying this album. I bought it because the single “alligator” is a pretty good song and I expected the rest of the album to be similar. I was pretty let down after a couple listens through. Let’s just say, if you are a 14 year old girl who recently broke up with her boyfriend you’ll probably love this. Alligator is a pretty sweet jam though and I stand by that. Rest of the album is pretty weak but not hard to listen to if it’s on in the background.

Flawless Transition
This is a band where no labels can be applied. OMAM are their own music genre. For nay sayers about this new album, just let me say that OMAM had telegraphed to us all that this change was coming three years ago. They are growing as artists and doing a fine job of it ! Personally I am a accomplished percussionist and have played and studied music for many years (I am 64) and was very excited awaiting the release of this album knowing, that without a doubt it was going to be good ! IT"S A GREAT ALBUM ! Other than "Fever Dream" the rest of the album is very mellow, a nice change. This band has a one of a kind sound due to their uncanny abilities of mixing their thoughts with their sounds, hence, as far as I am concerned, they have three great albums where every song on each one is a pleasure to listen to !In my view, OMAM are the most UNIQUE band producing music today !

Fabulous!
Fever Dream is fantastic and perhaps OMAM’s most creative work yet. I can sense some experimentation in their song writing and orchestration. The album does cycle through a few briefly mellow moments, and perhaps that’s where the music eluded some of their previous fans. However, the music always returns to the classic OMAM sound with Nanna’s beautiful Norse vocals and Arnar’s legendary Viking drumming. A tremendous amount of musical craftsmanship clearly went into the album. This collection may be a little more varied than their previous works with occasionally a bit more pop or chill, or even more of a Nordic sound at times. Cycling through slower songs and back to the more traditional enchanting sound we know and love makes it feel a bit like a musical, but one which is inspiring and fun. Let it grow on you!

No digital download?
This purchase neither came with an instant digital download nor a download card with the vinyl. What gives? The album itself sounds great, but I can ONLY listen to it at home on my record player, unfortunately. Given that the vinyl format is the MOST expensive, I wish that a digital copy of the album accompanied it so I could listen to it un-tethered from my record player.

At first it is so different but grows on you.
The vinyl is lovely, clear with a hot pink splatter effect housed in an inner lyric cover in a gatefold sleeve and very nice it is.The music opens with Alligator it is what you might expect from OMAM, drums and bass and in your face, great stuff. Then things take a change, i struggled with the difference in style at first and it took me 5 or 6 listens to really get in to this new softer more pop style, once you do the tracks get into your head and they grow on you fast.Highlights apart from Alligator are for me, Wars, Wild Roses and Soothsayer. The album has a more slick production which you may or may not like, i much prefer a raw sound personally but for me the album was a slow burner, but finally i'm really enjoying it.It isn't the raw powerful OMAM from the previous 2 albums, but it is still a very decent record.

Fever pitch more like!
Outstanding album from start to finish! I absolutely love this album and each album that's released from this wonderful band, gets better and better. I'm not trying to slate the previous albums and they are equally as good as this one but any new stuff is greatly anticipated. The stand out songs for me at the moment are, 'Soothsayer', 'Rororo', 'Alligator', 'Stuck in gravity' and 'Under a dome'. The album is growing on me all the time and this list will get bigger I'm sure. 5 stars from me.
