Quiltmaking Essentials I: Cutting and Piecing Skills

FYI - no patterns in this book, not even the quilt on the cover
As is normal for Martingale, this is a beautiful book with well-explained directions. So why 3 stars? It doesn't have the patterns for making the quilts pictured! Yes, that beautiful quilt you see on the front, the one that drew me in and caused me to want to buy this book, that pattern is no where to be found in this book. In fact, the picture of it inside the book references the ACTUAL book the pattern is in. Meaning, if I want this pattern, which I do, I'm going to have to buy another book. I won't go as far as saying it's a bait-and-switch because you do get a lot of helpful quilt-making instructions and it's a really nice book for that purpose. But if you are looking for the pattern for the quilt on front, you will be disappointed.

and had enjoyed an earlier book on this subject by Donna Lynn ...
I've been quilting for a number of years, and had enjoyed an earlier book on this subject by Donna Lynn Thomas, so this updated version is a great addition to my quilting library. Highly recommend it to quilters of any level of experience.

It would be helpful to have it spiral bound for beginners like myself because it has a lot of info that ...
I already have essentials two and thought that I would have the version of essentials one. I now wish that I had got the paper version of books one .It would be helpful to have it spiral bound for beginners like myself because it has a lot of info that I refer to frequently. I've been to classes etc and always been told to press towards the dark fabric. It explains how to do a map prior to stitching to arrange a flatter seam fonish for your joins

Fantastic and concise
Donna Lynne Thomas does a fabulous piece like a pro Class on bluprint. Loved her 'how to" and trouble shooting teaching style so much . Decided to take plunge and buy and the book., after downloading a sample of it. Great as kindle book.... I love to have kindle next to my cutting mat or near sewing machine. I will be purchasing her second book very soon!
