By the mid 1980s, Prince was dominating the charts even as a writer/producer with songs he'd composed and recorded for others. In addition to releasing nine of his most commercially successful full length albums, he also wrote and recorded endless reels of material for proteges The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, the Family, and Mazarati. Occasionally, Prince's original demo recordings would beused as master takes on their albums, with only minor alterations to the instrumentation and a replacement of the vocal tracks. Other times, artists would rely on his demos to guide them through their own recording process, with Prince's initial take informing their final version of his song. The aggregate effect was a complete saturation and transformation of the pop music landscape, with Prince both leading and subverting mainstream culture. Several of the iconic songs found on Originals were considerable hits for the artists who recorded them. Sheila E.'s "The Glamorous Life" reached #1 on the dance charts in 1984, while the enormous success of "Manic Monday" propelled the single and its accompanying album, The Bangles' Different Light, to the #2 spot on the pop charts. The Time's Ice Cream Castle, featuring the top 20 "Jungle Love", spent a whopping 57 weeks on the Billboard 200. And in 1991, Martika enjoyed international success with "Love... Thy Will Be Done", a top 10 hit in France, Australia, the UK and the USA. Originals pulls back the curtain to reveal the origins of these familiar songs, in addition to deeper album cuts such as Vanity 6's "Make Up," Jill Jones's "Baby, You're a Trip," and Kenny Rogers' "You're My Love." The album also features Prince's majestic original 1984 version of "Nothing Compares 2 U," released in 2018 as a standalone single. The Deluxe CD+2LP features purple vinyl.

Definitely worth the wait!
Forever now, I have been wanting to hear these in their original form and it finally came! The deluxe edition was worth every penny, the booklet is super cool w some written lyric sheets and back stories, and the packaging was done very well..not sure if there will be more volumes but hearing a lot of these songs really just solidifies more and more what a genius Prince really was..the world lost a great one, but the music will forever live on....***UPDATE*** I noticed on Side 1 there seems to be a partial “Non Fill” and the label appears slightly off center...I haven’t noticed anything sound wise so far but I wonder if anyone else had the same thing?

Superb artwork. Comes in a box-set jacket--worth the cost of entry alone.Pressing is top-notch and to the standard that one has come to expect from The Prince Estate (who published the title).More than ample extras--color booklet, CD, picture sleeve.Timeless tracks to boot. A fantastic product all around and happy to have it resting on my shelf. Could not recommend more from a vinyl addict and Prince adorer.

Get this now - the price is going up!
Can’t even explain how happy my Prince fan was to get this for her birthday. Then packaging and design are really quality. The CD is somewhat loose in its casing (it’s not in a separate package) so be careful. It’s a great collectible and I was even happier to see that the price doubled AFTER I bought it for $25 - i’d say it’s worth at least $65

I was expecting a gatefold jacket with two vinyl LP's but it comes in a thick book package with a 24 page booklet, photos, CD, handwritten lyrics and essays.Very well packaged and worth the money!P.S. If you buy it from the Prince Official Store site, expect to wait a long time for delivery.

SOUNDS BETTER ON VINYL
I AM GLAD TO HAVE THE VINYL ON THIS MAYBE ITS BECAUSE THE DEMOS AND HOW THEY SOUND BUT ON CD AND STEREAMING THERE IS ALOT OF AIR THE VINYL PRODUCTION OF THIS TAKES ALOT OF THAT WHITE NOISE AWAY

How come for me the best album so far is from a guy who is no longer with us and music that was recorded during the 80’s? That’s how good this album is.
