A Prison Story Iran

It's amazing how the human spirit can emerge from such harsh and oppressive governments, with the help of God. With God all things are possible, and this story is no different. I hope that all readers realize that just because a government calls itself a religious one, doesn't mean that they are. I hope that Ms. Dadgar attains the true happiness she seeks, in this life and Hereafter.

This book describes the pain of young girls that were imprisoned for many years in Iran's political prisons. It was written with truth and honesty, and I know this is so, because I was there to witness the cruelty of the process. She presented things with unexaggerated truth, no lies, and explained the inhumanity of the situation. Mehri was under a lot of pressure to cooperate with the guards, but she kept her poise and dignity and successfully kept secrets that could have endangered people that I know.Mehri and I disagree on various ideological aspects, but I've always respected her character and integrity. I remember one time when I was being tortured in the same room where Mehri had just been tortured ahead of me. I was blindfolded before my torture, so I couldn't see much before I was tortured. But afterward, when my blindfold was removed, I was amazed by all the blood splattered on the walls, floor and ceiling (I thought it was mine). The guard laughed and said not to be so proud - that was Mehri's blood.

I am extremely impressed with this book, especially in its current form, which corrects grammatical errors mentioned by earlier reviewers. Mehri Dadgar has done an amazing job of sharing not only her compelling personal story, but of giving the reader a very good window into the social, cultural and political world of Iran at a critical juncture in its history. But her story is far more than an excellent historical memoir. Given today’s increase in what we have come to know as “Islamic terrorism” and “Political Islam” it provides some perspective on these phenomena. Perhaps even more importantly, it clarifies just how totally they go against the essential teachings of Islam in the Quran.I find parts of this book painful to read because of the brutality the author and her fellow prisoners had to endure. Witnessing her strength and growth overshadows that pain.

We take for granted our freedom here in America. If this book doesn't touch your soul, then you don't have one. May God bless and keep you safe.

In spite of numerous grammar errors I fell in love with the book. Wonderful, touching and shocking story of another beautiful and talented innocent woman in Iran victimized by the ruthless fanatical government. Reading books like this one helps me appreciate life and simple freedoms I have.Her soul and inner world is as beautiful as her face you see on the cover of the book. Highly recommend.

Excellent and very disturbing story. Well written and easy to read.

This is an eye opening book into the realities a world away when a tolitatian regime takes over. The smallest imagined infraction may result in years of imprisonment and torture. Kind hearted friends may report you and on your own you will crack. Release from prison will not remove the emotional scars. Sunlight will won over shadows but when?

I feel rather speechless after reading this book. It is a book that should be read especially by those who twist and corrupt the Qur'an or those who blindly follow. It is an account of a very brave and courageous woman. Mahdi, if you read this I thank you for the courage to write your story. I am sure it will touch the hearts of many people as it has mine.
