With more than twenty five years practicing and teaching at university level as a midwife with international expertise in aromatherapy, Denise Tiran offers a wonderful resource text for professional nurses, midwives, doulas and aromatherapists practicing aromatherapy in clinical settings. This text along with her previous books ( i.e. Aromatherapy in Pregnancy and Childbirth, Complementary Therapies in Pregnancy and Childbirth, Nausea in Pregnancy, etc) have proven a great asset to myself and my nursing, midwifery and doula students in the US and South America. With years of practice, she is a true expert in the field understanding the benefits and risks practicing in the field of midwifery and aromatherapy. As the field of aromatherapy sales and recommendation is exploding with many well intentioned, undereducated individuals, this helps balance many other unsafe recommendations and practice. Keeping pregnant women and babies safe and supported while offering an actual clinical perspective is at the core of this book. I recommend adding it to your library with her other numerous books and articles if interested or practicing in this field.

I have removed my previous and more detailed review regarding the good aspects of the book (considerable) and some things that could be improved in this book in future publications. I have been told that the author takes criticism personally; My review as a clinical aromatherapist was made in the hopes she will change a few things in future publications.This book is very useful for those not familiar with which essential oils are safe and which are not for pregnancy..

I love having the ability to share aromatherapy in a safe way especially with pregnant women.

Really helpful read for my work as an aromatherapist who also works with pregnant, labouring and postpartum women - very excited to add some of this knowledge to my toolbox and will be a much referred too reference book for me

This excellent book is a must for all midwives who are interested in aromatherapy. This book outlines professional responsibilities, qualification, safety for pregnant women, supporters, and midwives. NMC legislation is considered with regards to professional responsibility and accountability within midwifery practice.
