WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners 2: Piano Pieces In The G 5-Finger Scale | With Teacher Duets

This Wunderkeys series has been great for my students who are interested in pop music and/or just want a different style than the other pieces in their books. These songs have a certain mood that really engage the student, and because there are so many songs, the student gets a chance to practice similar rhythm concepts and other level specific topics while enjoying new sounds. Also, it is fun that they have teacher duets! Definitely a great deal, and I recommend it to other piano teachers.

This is great for middle school learners who are starting out. The songs sound “older” and more mature for older beginners. It makes my private lessons enjoyable for both teacher and student!

This book (and book 1) has given myself, my own children AND my piano students of all ages, hours of pleasure. Both major and minor tunes are lovely and so memorable that my students ask for their favourites by name according to their own mood. When I exclaim 'ah yes, I love that one too' we go on to have a fantastic duet moment that leaves them feeling musically inspired and "capable". And that is the beauty of this book, it's empowering! It's the only book I NEVER lend out. I am a huge fan of Andrea Dow's music for teens, her books and teen solos are, in a word, gorgeous.

My students find these pieces really engaging and being in just the one hand position makes them easy to learn, so they're good as fun extra music. I would have preferred it if the whole book hadn't just been in the one G hand position though. The teacher accompaniment really fills out the sound has contrasting rhythms which is helpful for developing kids sense of the beat. As the pieces are in a pop/rock style they can really appeal to anyone, I do this with primary school students who like playing 'cool' sounding music.
