Douxo (Sogeval) Calm Shampoo for Dogs & Cats (200 ml) – Topical Solution for Allergies

Most of the reviews of this product are for dogs, but this shampoo is amazing for cats too! My cat has been overgrooming to the point where she is completely bald on her tummy and legs. We have also had a few hot spots to deal with as well. The vet thought this could be a behavioral issue, as many cats overgroom due to anxiety or boredom, but it could be due an allergy too. We tried Feliway and Zylkene for calming (great products). We tried new toys, tunnels, furniture, and puzzles for enrichment. I also tried changing some foods in case she had developed a food allergy. Finally, as a last resort I decided to give Douxo Calm shampoo a try after reading all the positive reviews. A miracle! Usually bathing a cat is a more difficult task, but with this shampoo there was no problem. The relief in her eyes! It must have felt good because my kitty was more than willing to patiently sit while I bathed her with this shampoo. The shampoo works best if you let it soak for 5 minutes, so I wrapped my kitty in a towel and held her while we waited before rinsing. We have been using this shampoo about twice a week for three weeks now, and the overgrooming has diminished quite a bit. Her coat is unbelievably soft, the irritated patches of skin have healed, and she is even beginning to have some fuzz growing back on her tummy. I will say this bottle is pretty small. I have not had issues with it running out too quickly, but I imagine you would with a large dog. We have also tried the Douxo Calm Mousse to stretch out the time between baths-- it works somewhat, but the shampoo is the real winner. If your cat will tolerate bathing, definitely give this product a try!

I will definitely keep using this product. I have a 9 yr old English bulldog with extreme allergies (on allergy vaccines from the dermatology vet) to the point where his fur falls out, his chin gets raw and bloody, and his paws swell up and bleed - imagine chronic anaphylactic peanut allergies in people. I recently adopted a French bulldog puppy who was also itching and scratching looking like he had chicken pox. A few tips for dogs with allergies: always use hypoallergic laundry detergent & don't use harsh cleaners or carpet fresh ever (I use a steam mop on my hardwoods). I've been using the Malaseb shampoo on my english for years and it is a miracle product - I highly recommend this too because it has an antibacterial + antifungal. Also Orijen dog food + Missing Link works wonders (my English's hair grew back on this food). I recently added AllerG3 supplements after a friend recommended it. Many times, esp for black labs, the itching is a result of a deficiency omega3 fatty acids in their diet - they were bred in fishing areas & thus require diets high in fish (btw sardines are great to supplement in the dog food & dogs love them!). My bulldogs probably don't suffer from just an omega deficiency since their diet is high in it, but I wanted to mention it for those buying this shampoo since it may be worth it to try changing your dog's diet. I use this with the Malaseb because that shampoo is a good treatment shampoo (I combine it with ketochlor lotion after the bath) but Malaseb doesn't seem to wash very well, they never smell "fresh" if I just use that, so I like to use something a bit more lathery to get dirt/oil off them first, but I don't like to use something that might exacerbate their allergies. I used fUrminator for a while and I love how clean they are with it but I started realizing I needed to try to use something to relieve their itching too if possible. This shampoo didn't work overnight but I use it several times weekly at first on my frenchie and his bumps seemed to get better along with a change in his diet. I'm going to keep using it and hopefully I continue to have good results.

Grains may very well be among the allergens that trigger his skin woes. DOUXO has proven essential to maintaining his vastly improved skin condition.

My vet recommended this for our golden retriever who was suffering from allergies and scratching herself badly. So much so, we had problems even brushing her from her sensitivities. We bath our dog about twice a month and no problems with this product. It didn't seem to irritate her at all and cleans without leaving a heavy scent. It doesn't foam much but don't be tempted to then use too much otherwise it may stay on the coat. We will continue to use it, even though her allergies have all but disappeared. I took off one star because it is expensive for the size.
