Jip and Janneke: engelse editie

This is a review for Jip and Janneke in English. This is such a delightful book about two Dutch preschoolers, full of very short stories. My kids (3 and 7) both love it and so do I. They get into mischief but they also are so creative and have a lot of fun together.

Love the stories!!

I grew up in the Netherlands with Jip and Janneke stories. Annie M.G. Schmidt's stories are excellent and still 60 years after she wrote them, the stories are a delight to read to my daughter, just like any other books she wrote. Let there be no misunderstanding, I love Annie M.G. Schmidt works.As my daughter is finishing first grade, I wanted to give her teacher the present of the complete Jip and Janneke stories as a thank you for her excellent teaching and to give her a peek as to where our 'Californian' daughter is coming from.For the price it was advertised on Amazon, you might think it was the complete collection of Jip and Janneke stories. The moment the shipment arrived I realized it could not possibly be the complete set, it was way to small and light. Upon opening my disappointment grew further. These were not complete stories. The book consisted of numerous one page - big letters - descriptions of who Jip and Janneke are. No funny stories of adventures of a 4 or 5 year old, I personally found the writeup pretty lame. I think the title is highly misleading. It is my impression - but it could be wrong - Annie M.G. Schmidt has nothing to do with this book, it looks like a publisher hastily compiled a book with a fourth grader synopsis of maybe two or three Jip and Janneke stories with pictures of the original illustrator (no complaints there, Fiep Westendorp's illustrations are classic).In my quest for the complete Jip and Janneke works in English I had to go back to local Dutch stores or Dutch websites. There I found this book, brand new, untarnished, for one tenth of the price of the Amazon resellers. I also found the 'almost complete' works in English (around 10 euro's). As a side note, my favorite story where Jip and Janneke go and buy a cigar for Jip's father for his birthday is not among the stories, I guess the book was 'censored' for an English speaking audience.

I purchased this book as a gift to my adult daughter who spent time in Holland,The Netherlands and commented on the characters in a conversation we had.She was very excited to receive this book and said it was a quality product.

Having read these stories as a child, I was looking for the English translation of the original stories. This book is not it. It’s just a story explaining the Netherlands.

Cute book. My son loves to read about Jip and Janneke's adventures!

Loved these stories as a child, but this translation is rough. It is written in a very choppy way with lots of sentences starting with "and". It does not have the same charm are the original stories.

I have no previous experience with Jip and Janneke so I come without preconceptions or the ability to be disappointed. My aunt brought this back from Holland for my 1 and 3 year old sons. The illustrations are marvelous, as in get out your scanner and make copies to wallpaper your room marvelous. The story introduces children to Holland, what the young children there like to do generally. Then it goes through a 3-4 pages for each of the seasons. It is simple and just right for my children and their interests. It makes me want to find more Jip and Janneke things. I'd love to read them the actually stories someday.

As a Dutch grandmother to my British grandson I was thrilled to find this book on Amazon!I used to read this book myself as a child and read it to my own children when they were young.Looking forward to lots of special time with my grandson!

I am loving this book, but it isn't the original omnibus book written by Annie M G Schmidt. Still lovely drawings and all the seasons explained, but it isn't the original Jip en Janneke book
