Bench Dog Tools No. 5-1/2 Jack Plane - Premium Woodworking Tool for Precision and Efficiency

It's a good plane, at the price, it's a good deal. You'll need to do the usual honing and tuning, with mine the frog adjustment screw needed a thread cleaning, it was binding up and the mouth was just too wide open. After I got the cleaning and honing done, tuned it in and got silk-smooth surfaces and shavings you could read through. The blade as shipped has a back-bevel, Spent about 45 minutes on the stones to flatten the back and get a primary and secondary bevel established. a little bit of strop time and it was near-mirror. The sole was reasonably flat. Went to close the mouth some and found the adjuster screw only got a half turn each way, a quick run with the thread cleanup kit (M6 thread) straightened that out. There is a good amount of slop in the blade adjuster, but it does run smooth. I should also mention it comes in a nice presentation box lined with egg-crate, has a sock, and a nice manual. It's not a Premium, but at the easier price and fast delivery it's a good deal for the little work you'll need to put into it.

Well made. Sole is dead flat per machine straight edge. Blade/iron needed a finish on the un-damaged section(explanation below). That’s to be expected. Comes with a manual and an inspection record.Condition after shipping is another story. The iron and cap came loose during shipping. This resulted in the edge banging around in the body of the plane. Didn’t take much to repair the damaged part of the cutting edge. Perhaps there is a better way to pack.Overall, pleased with the purchase.

A really great and solid tool. It's a 5 1/2 Stanley made by Benchdog tools. It's wider than a 4 or 5. It has a brass Lever Cap. Very solid and we'll made.
