The E-Series Oxford jazz shoe deserves a dancing ovation for transcending the test of time. This lace-up, split-sole jazz shoe is a go-to for beginner dancers, as well as seasoned performers. Features a non-slip heel counter, cotton lining and padded insole to keep you moving without any discomfort. Recommended for all ages and levels. Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father's footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio's popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes. The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance. Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.

Should have paid more attention to reviews and product description!
They are not wide enough, and I must have been mistaken. I assumed that they would have a leather sole similar to a ballet shoe. If you are looking for a shoe that will not strain your knees, these are not for you. You cannot do turns and pivots easily with these shoes.

Perfect fit
Customer reviews warn of too-small size. I ordered my street size and one-half size larger. The street size Capezio's are perfect on bare feet or summer socks. As I continue class into the winter months, I may wear warmer socks, so I kept the larger size as well. Don't buy larger sizes. Just let the shoe mold around your foot. I used to dance in my younger years, so I know what ballet/jazz slippers are supposed to feel like. These are perfect as-is.

Don't breathe very much
Does the job but doesn't breathe as well as other closed-toe shoes I own. The material wasn't the supple leather I hoped for, it seems a little plastic-y. I wasn't pleased. Capezio's products get poorer as time goes on, it seems.

Lightening fast shipper (day early) but too small
This item looks like a great quality item, and my daughter loved its look. However, I just ordered a size 1.5x bigger, as this shoe was not true to street size. My daughter usually wears a size 3 (her foot actually measures 2 1/2). The 3 1/2 in this shoe was way too small. Just giving you a head's up on the sizing.

(Most of her dance shoes has me going to a dance store to ensure a proper fit) These shoes feel like butter, mold gently to her
I ordered these for my dance obsessed daughter. The consistent sizing and quality of the company enables me to confidently order online. (Most of her dance shoes has me going to a dance store to ensure a proper fit) These shoes feel like butter, mold gently to her foot, and she outgrows them well before out dancing them. These are the shoes you see in the pass down box at the studio.

Great for painting!
I recently ordered these for English Country Dancing. I've had a chance to wear them a couple different times, and they work well! I was concerned I either wouldn't get enough traction, or would get too much, but Capezio has added the perfect balance on these shoes. I went ahead and ordered my street shoe size when I purchased my pair. They are a bit snug, but they still fit over socks so hopefully the leather will stretch out a bit over time. My feet are on the wide side and though I don't wear wide street shoes, when I order my next pair I will definitely order wide. They still fit, but don't look as nice since I can't lace them as tightly as they should be. When worn, these shoes feel rather like a pair of shoes with a heel attached. It's a perfect blend of feeling barefoot but still having a heel. Also just a side note - I ordered the wrong color (caramel instead of black), but I was able to easily change this. Just rub isopropyl alcohol all over the leather to get the finish off, and then paint them with acrylic paint. I just used a 99 cent bottle of dark red paint from Wal*mart, and they turned out looking like beautiful cherry leather shoes! I didn't add any sort of top coat as I haven't had any problems with flaking or anything - the leather appears to have simply absorbed paint. In the future I will have to try it out with some different colours!

nice look for everyday style
I use this pair of shoes during my Jazz practice. But, sometimes I use these shoes in partner with my casual outfit because it has a nice look that's good for an everyday style.
