Not bad
I wouldn't write a negative thing about a book if there weren't some unnecessary claim, comment in it that made me suspicious about the writer. On page 34, he claims " ... Go isn't a robust language. (That is not a judgement, it's a statement of fact.)". That is your opinion Mr.Eric Windmill. You didn't need to blame Go (especially when you are not correct). This book is one of the 3 Flutter books that I have ordered at the same time, and the others are much better.

Hopelessly out of date for Flutter development in 2023
Needs a 2nd edition and a really thorough edit. So much useless cruft in the writing. Obviously the code in the code hasn't been updated, but the GitHub repo is 4 years untouched and would only take a bit of work to bring up to the current version of Flutter and Dart. As it stands, if you use VS Code with the Flutter plugin, that software will automatically update to the latest version, as it should, and you immediately get build errors in the code you either enter from this book or that you clone from the git repo. :(

Outdated and backward
I'm a fan of Manning publications but this one falls short of the mark. The code generally does not work without significant changes using the current Flutter SDKs. It's difficult to fault the author when Flutter is such a fast-moving target but there could be an update on the GitHub repository.I say "backward" because there are so many times where the author touches on something like "async" code and says to not worry about it "we'll cover it later." While that's true, it's not until MUCH later and that functionality is critical to the successful operation of the applications. I really hope they make a second edition of this book but with a completely re-organized set of material that covers all the fundamentals up-front regardless of how difficult the author believes the material is.If you're looking for a primer on Flutter 2, this is not the book for you but maybe a 2nd edition will fix that.

Sample code doesn't work
Sample code for the main meaty project doesn't work. No support in forums or updates. If I want to learn straight from the docs I won't bother to shell out cash for the book.

Mixed impressions: Book is ok, but doesn't feel really a joy to read
Author shows lot of stuff (code) first, saying that one shouldn't be bogged down if it's hard to understand, and then there comes part of explanation afterwards (some directly after, some in next chapters). Not best possible didactics, I'd say. There is deep dive of internals, lots of details, but some code samples are repeated 3-4 times. I did select this book over other Flutter books, and think it has details which every Flutter developer should know, so I still consider it as a good book. Somehow I feel that Flutter is hard topic to teach, since it is very high level UI framework, really efficient, but one needs to understand quite some details to really master it (alone reactive programming and streams are quite something to expect as base knowledge).--I have got used that when I have once read I can easily recall read content when coming back later. Somehow this books structure doesn't really work too well with me so I don't manage to use it well as reference and information seems to be scattered over the book so that I just don't manage to find overarching ideas and structure.
