The History of the Patchwork Quilt

I'm very pleased with this basic treatment of worldwide quilt history. It's a great resource to use as you begin to study. It is well written and the translation is good, despite a very few glitches. There are many photos - most in black and white - but all of superb quality. The black and white photos, in my opinion, show the quilts just as effectively as do the ones in color. In fact, several examples of actual quilting patterns show up best in black and white photos. There are extensive footnotes referring to earlier quilt history research.Schiffer Publishing books are of the highest quality, printed on heavy glossy paper, and the pages are stitched in sections, not just glued inI'm half way through the book and have learned so much. Two of my favorite things so far: 1) photos of a 19th century Siberian winter coat made from animal pelts (the close up of the exquisite miniature patchwork trim takes my breath away) and 2) information about the role fabric played in the early years of the United States - the name Samuel Slater should be remembered with other heroes of our country's beginning.I've quilted for over 30 years, and have collected many books which I've enjoyed mainly for their illustrations. Now I am retiring and plan to study quilt history (and actually read all of my books) and I am so happy I purchased this book (at the lowest price possible - what a stroke of luck!) to read as I begin. It has really whetted my appetite for my studies to come.Please - if you want to learn about quilt history, don't pass up this great volume.

this is o.k. and now I have it.really don't have much choice as I am half a world away and am not going to return it because of cost.

A number of the pictures are in black and white however the text is okay. I thought there would have been more about British quilting in the history of quilting. It is an okay reference book. Condition was good for a relatively cheap second hand book.

Very thorough book about the history of Patchwork with illustrations.
