Works great so far
Works great so far, been over a month. Nice not having to constantly empty the bucket like my old machine. Seems to put out more heat than my last unit did, but it's worth it.

My wife and I needed a dehumidifier for our basement, and this being our first house, I researched different models and decided on the SPT SD-52PE because it had a pump (our basement doesn't have a floor drain) and was reasonably priced. However, once it arrived I had an immediate unhappy feeling because upon opening the box it came in, I discovered it had been shipped upside down with the wheels pointing upwards. Then when I followed the directions and set it up to have the unit pump water upwards toward a drain, it leaked all over our basement floor. I cleaned the floor and re-read the directions and knew I had the unit set up to pump correctly; however, upon trying it a second time, it leaked water on our floor again. Then when I called Sunpentown, the guy with whom I spoke had no clue what might be the problem. He also said the unit--even though listed on Amazon as pumping water upwards to sixteen feet--would actually only pump upwards about eight feet (I was shooting for six and a half feet). Why would you list the unit as pumping sixteen feet when it only pumps eight? I didn't bother to find out and politely said good-bye and hung up the phone. When I re-read the directions a third time, I then noticed the fine print said the unit only pumped water "horizontally" or on a downward slope . . . even though it's listed on several sites (including SPT's own site) as being able to pump water upwards. To make a long story short: I returned the unit, spent about a $100 more on a Kenmore unit, and have had no issues whatsoever with it. I may have gotten a lemon with the SPT unit, but I would still recommend buying another brand.

GREAT Dehumidifier! (Don’t try this at home.)
Great humidifier!! I have a split level home and had this humidifier downstairs, which worked great…for downstairs. Then came up with the bright idea of adapting it to draw-from and feed-into a return vent in my garage. I was outside of the warranty period, so I decided just to go for it. So glad I did. Now this unit is dehumidifying my entire 1,400 sq ft home! Pre-adaptation, my humidity was averaging about 59%. Now, it’s averaging a comfortable 40-45%. Beyond pleased!

SPT SD-52PE Energy-Star Dehumidifier
We purchased this for our basement. We have always run a dehumidifier for the seven years we have been here. The last one bit the dust, so after reading many reviews we purchased the SPT-52PE. I was very pleasantly surprised that it pulls in twice as much water as my last one. We haven't used the pump to remove water. We tote it to where ever we need. You may think your basement is dry, but in my experience there is more moisture than you realize. My friends some times ask what that machine is for. After explanation several have purchased one and the feedback I receive is always "Wow, I didn't know."Great for basements, garages, and many other areas.

Should have listened to the negative reviewers...Would NOT buy again.
This product is great...until it's not. We bought this dehumidifier last April and used it for about 5 months. It worked great up until the end of that period. It started displaying the CE error code. I just assumed that it was no longer humid enough for it, so I cleaned it per instructions and stored it per instructions. We got it back out and tried to start it again, and, lo and behold, it displays the same error code. The environment temperature is 73 in the house and 80 outside, so I knew that couldn't be the issue. I started to do some more research and found that this is a common complaint. It's my fault for not doing that research sooner, but still, I expect a $200+ dehumidifier to last longer than one season. I wish I had listened to the negative reviews and not bought it. Shame on me for making these mistakes, but shame on you if you buy this dehumidifier.

We had a terrible problem with humidity
So far this seems to be working in our "cottage" which is on the beach. We had a terrible problem with humidity, everything was always wet. This unit started working right away and the pan seemed to fill up each day. My husband hooked up the pump and ran the hose, and itis working draining out the window. We researched multiple units, we didn't want something too loud, since the guest cottage is a largeone room building, but it is not bad at all. It really works well to dry out the area.

Good quality for price.
Works great. I know it's for indoor use but we put in under our house in our crawl space to remove the humidity under and in the house. We were having hardwood floor issues and has definitely helped. It's been going strong for over a year now. We had been looking for a humidifier with a side fan and not a top fan and this was the only one we could find. We hooked up the drain hose and it drains automatically. We did however turn it off for the winter months.
