In the past, I have read a few other books on this subject, but I'd say that this one IS THE BEST. It gives extensive descriptions of what the United States pet food industry IS REALLY ABOUT. "OH MY GOD!" The Book tells you what really is in dog food and what to stay away from, the types of chemicals and what they are, recalls, the top 10 medical CONDITIONS IN DOGS & Cats that come from poorly made foods, and etc. From all of this information You will be able to read the ingredients on a can or a bag and understand what's in it so that your Beloved pets don't get sick or die.Immediately after reading it, I changed my poodles diet from 'Pedigree' canned 'garbage' to certain limited kinds of quality human food and inserted 'Organix Canine Formula' (a Premium dog food that has organic chicken, brown rice & Flax seed meal ground up in it.) My little poodle now gets EXCITED when I feed her rather than 'sniffing' & walking away.Thank God for this Excellent book. It will save me NOT having to spend BIG BUCKS in vet bills as she grows and Enjoys her life.

This book is so truthful, it' scary. If everyone knew this stuff dog food would change for the better (all pet food, but I'm a dog health coach so that's my focus)... or the manufacturers would come up with new tricks. Please read this if you get the chance. I suggest it in some of my dog health classes so people can get a grasp of the pet food industry. Surprisingly, I don't hate the big conglomerates. I know they are in it for profit rather than the health of our pets. You should understand that as well. I mean what else would we do with all the tons of garbage if it wasn't recycled into food for your beloved pet?Please become aware. Remember the saying "You are what you eat"? Well, our pet's cells are made up of what we feed them and only real food creates health.Susan Thixton uses all profits to promote awareness. My hat is off to her... now buy and read the book!

I am glad some are having the courage to tell the truth about giant companies like purina, pedigree, iams, eukanuba, hills/science diet, royal canin and other poor quality dog foods. Commercial pet food is causing deaths and illnesses that are sometimes mistakenly chalked off to being something else. There are poisons in commercial pet foods. It's a fact. This book tells you about it but I did know of these facts before thanks to a different writer who wrote Food Pets Die For... a long long time before thixton did.I didn't care for the writing style in this book and did not like the layout. I found the writer to be over-emotional in her writing style. Don't get me wrong, I am emotional and passionate about pets and their health, but in a book that I expected to be a fact-written piece, I didn't like the emotional side remarks like: "That's absurd." that was one sentence written after a fact was divulged.Still, I think it's a good book with good truthful facts which you will not get from those pet food companies. In the end, I believe that no pet food manufacturer can really be trusted. I think the only healthy way to go is to feed a real raw diet. If your pet's health is immunocompromised though, you can't do that, so the next best thing is a home cooked meal with added vitamins and minerals.(The appropriate ones).Good reading in this book if you would like to learn some facts about how bad pet food really is.

VERY VERY imformative. people want the best for their pets BUT they"TRUST" and rely on "GREEDY" corporations that police themselves. Take charge of your pets health. This book will help you stop throwing your money away on crap that can make your pets SICK AND OR DIE! - AND- YOUR VETS RICH in the process!!...Your pets depend on you, just like children, read this book, it will teach you how to read lables and so much more, learn for their sake! I have bought several copies and gave to friends that are struggling with serious health issues with their pets, I also give copies to friends with so called "healthy" pets, so they can prevent trouble in the future and have a longer time with their pet! End the Allergies, Seizures,Cancers and Obesity, Heart and Dental problems Ear Infections---- READ THIS BOOK! TAKE CHARGE! YOUR PET WILL LOVE YOU MUCH LONGER FOR IT!!!!!! This book is all about saving pets...-

Good book very interesting now look at the labels on all cat food before I buy , I know avoid all items made in china and I'm wary of cat food made In Thailand as tbe chicken they use might not be safe.

Very good book . Looks into the murky world of dry dog food. You will never feed your dog kibble again.

Very good book. For those not sure whether to vaccinate each year this will help you make an informed decision.

A must read especially for people who have been betrayed by big pet food companies.

This book is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ for ALL people who share their life with a dog or cat. Susan lays out, in very simple understandable words just how little the FDA and AAFCO do to ensure that our pets are eating high quality appropriate food - when this is what they're mandated by law to be doing. There is little left to the imagination that the FDA and AAFCO are heavily influenced, if not controlled, by Big Pet Food.
