Good radio, tricky controls
This is for the 270 model. I've had it for 3 years, used it on about 100 regattas. The reception is better and sound is clearer than many of my crews' more expensive radios. The battery lasts forever if only receiving or a day of intensive use. Not a deal breaker but the controls are a bit tricky: the same arrow keys change channels, volume and squelch (together with VOL/SQL). Even trickier, you have to make sure to use US channels and not accidentally switch to Canada/International (via the UIC button). It may have happened to a friend...

Battery failed within one month without fully using the Uniden Atlantis 270!
Despite the amount of warnings given inside of the Product Review of Amazon I still purchase this Uniden Atlantis 270. I am very disappointed on the very very short life cycle of the battery!I think based on the amount of claims on the battery it is a good idea for the Supplier (Amazon) to have Uniden recall these batteries for the clients!Update of 16-Sep-2020:I was hoping someone of the seller would be contacting with a damage control offer or something, but I learning my lesson. Its hard invest to get disappointed afterwards with a none functioning device!

Good VHF Radio
Ordered two of these. One of them was DOA on arrival. Amazon sent a new one within 2 days. Tried these out in the Gulf of Mex and they worked flawlessly. The range on these seems to be about 10 miles from the shore out to sea. It did get some sea water on it, just rinsed it off with bottled water and it was fine after it dried up a bit, the noise was a little distorted while wet, but that's normal. If you're out in the water a lot then you're probably better off with a 25W radio, but these are great for sea to shore.

Insufficient range
Extremely poor range... I understand the line of sight thing, but I seriously could shout farther than this radio can Tx/Rx. I took the time to read through the manual and select different channels, adjust transmitting power, etc... and it still fell WAY short of what was expected. I love the fact that it is waterproof and has a good battery life, but it fails as a radio. Sorry to say, but return initiated.

Worthless
Separated by a mile on an remote ocean beach, my husband was unable to contact me to tell me that a bear and probably a cub was headed my way. We are former search and rescue members and take preparedness seriously. DO NOT buy these. They are worthless.

Mic doesn’t last.
I’ve purchased 3 of there and they have worked great for months then the mics stopped working. I use them kayak fishing And once the mic got wet it stopped working. They still receive but cannons transmit.

We’ve had many handheld marine radios and this is by far the best one we have owned. You can set it and when you turn it back on it is amazingly right on the correct channel just like you want it to be. Good battery life -ours lasted all summer with one recharge.

Nice radio
Love the product. It is a good solid piece of just the right size that fits very comfortably in my palm. The unit has a non-slip surface all around and a nice secure clip at the back. The sound is very clear. The radio can be very loud when the volume is at maximum. Easy to use. Comes with the regular and the car charger as well.

Christmas gift for Dad.
Bought this for my Dad for Christmas. Says it's exactly what he wants and is excited to use it this summer. Hits many top lists and seems to work well.

Good radio for the price and it survived being dropped ...
I would give it 5 stars but occasionally some the users where having trouble with the transmit button and the other radios could hardly hear the transmission as it was so faint. I think with a little more training they will figure it out. Good radio for the price and it survived being dropped in snow several times.
