Excellent for what is meant for: as a backup headlight, or as a visibility light.
I have topeak's Whitelite / Redlite Race combo on my roadbike, as permanent visibility lights (I always turn them on as flashers, to be seen by traffic), and I love them. They're small, light, highly visible and I can carry replacement batteries for them on my saddle bag without using too much space. However, a couple of times I've found myself riding after sunset and I tried to use the Whitelite Race as a headlight, without much success. Its light is not focused, so even though it works very well for being seen by traffic, it doesn't work well as a headlight.I wanted something similarly sized, perhaps a bit brighter and with a focused beam to keep in my saddle bag and use in case I found myself riding in the dark again. The whitelite II is exactly what I was looking for. It has 3 leds (one more than the Whitelite Race), uses the same batteries as the Whitelite/Redlite Race combo, and it's so small I was able to squeeze it in my already cramped saddle bag without any problems. At night, I can leave my Whitelite Race on in flashing mode to ensure traffic will see me, and in 30 seconds, take out, install amd point the Whitelite II to the ground, to better see where I'm going.Yes, it's not super bright, it may offer you decent visibility for 5-6 yds., and some visibility for 6-10 yds., so it's not a good idea to go super fast with this as your main head light. But, if you ride often at night and/or like to ride fast in the dark, you shouldn't be considering this light in the first place. There are much better suited lights for those purposes. The batteries bought in bulk are not very expensive and if the Whitelite Race is an indicator, they should last a very long time on flashing mode. I don't know how long they'll last on headlight mode, but topeak says 60 hrs. on constant mode, 100 hrs. on blinking mode. That should be more than enough for taking me back home3 or 4 times per year, exactly the occasional emergency use I bought it for. And I always carry extra batteries with me, as they're so small and light. So to sum it up, It's a really really great product for it's intended purpose: as a small, very bright visibility light, or as a backup, short range headlight.

Small package lots o' light
Easily mounted and easily tossed in my bike bag. I don't do much riding at night, but when I get caught out this really comes in handy for seeing and being seen.

Whitelite II
Good bright little light. Not a really powerful light but works good as a flasher. might want a bigger one if you're using it as a headlight.

Nothing
This is a terrible light. It's not very bright and uses watch batteries. Not like the picture. Small and poor quality. Do not buy!
