Chicken Harness (Black, X-Small)

Yep, I walk my chicken
I think these are just dog harnesses with chicken labels. But I bought it anyway. I got a blue rooster size and it nicely fits my bigger birds. The pink small fits the smaller girls and adjusts up to fit the med-large girls. My neighbors thought it was a hoot! It is not so much Walking a Chicken on a Leash as it is Hang on to the Leash so the Chicken Doesn't Run Away. The chickens liked the new places to scratch and forage. The kids lost interest after a bit. Very easy to put on and the hens did not need time to adjust to the harness at all.

Amazing invention
The media could not be loaded. I originally bought this for my chickens (I included a video of my frizzle chicken Tillie with the harness on), but they can easily slip their heads out of the harness and become distressed by it. So I tried using it on my ducks (Indian runners and khaki campbell) and it works a lot better for them because their necks are so long they can't slip out of it. I think it's so funny to walk them around, but they don't really like it and don't understand how to walk on a leash so it's difficult to actually get them to walk anywhere. I am going to try and get them more used to it and hopefully they'll get the hang of it. Other than that it fits really well on both chickens and ducks, besides the chickens heads slipping out and my largest hen is too big for it (I think she is an orpington, so very large). I also only use it in my yard though I want to walk them down the street if they eventually get used to it.

Great idea, but...
We liked the idea a lot, but our chicken did not (and she's a really chill chicken too). The minute we put the harness on her, she freaked out like she had a parasite on her and ran around the yard trying to get it off. As funny as it was to watch, I don't think she'll be going on a leashed walk anytime soon. We'll try to get her used to the harness by putting it on a little bit everyday and using food for positive reinforcement, but I think it will be a long time before she's used to it. It fits fine, but it would be a more snug fit if the top strap (that has the leash ring attached) was adjustable too.

Unhappy hens
I'll start this by saying that this is not my first time using a harness or leg cord on poultry. In fact, the silkie mentioned in this review has worn both harnesses and leg ties at various times. While the materials seemed to be of adequate quality, the slides and buckles seemed a bit bulky for the size of the x-small harness. In addition, unless the chest portion was almost worryingly tight, the chickens got their toenails snagged in it while scratching or attempting to escape from it. The mesh material was sort of snaggy all around. I tried it on a silkie, a bantam cochin, and a turken pullet. The shape seemed to work the best on the silkie, who had the longest body, but she still got her toes in it. While I could get it tight enough to limit snags and escapes, it became obvious at that tightness that it was uncomfortable for the birds. When removed after applying the harness tightly, it was also apparent that it was damaging feathers as the bird moved. All in all, a neat idea, but failing to provide the advertised experience.

Wouldn't recommend. Needs more adjustment options.
Might work for a larger chicken but it's just not going to happen on chickens that I've got. The neck needs to be adjustable for this to work at all as its too large and on the chickens that I was able to fit it on they really really didn't like the legs being in front of the rear section. also the section between the front and rear circles needs to be adjustable because for all of my chickens and Ducks it was either just too big or just too short and are none that really fit quite well. I also tried fitting this on a duck initially and although it fit better it left the duck freaking the hell out and quite frankly wasn't something I wanted to keep on him.

X-small chicken harness
Good harness for a very small chicken. I purchased it for my bantam silkie (~2 pounds, 5-month-old). I’ve got a small harness that was too big for her and ordered the extra-small. I think she might be somewhere in-between the X-Small and the Small... or maybe she gained a few ounces during the delivery. I think it will be perfect for a growing chicken so I’m totally hanging onto the extra-small just for that instance. I really love the chicken harnesses though because they are quite handy and the chickens look so adorable in them.

Medium works for medium and large chickens.
It fit perfectly. My oldest daughter uses this harness on a black australorp and our younger daughter uses this harness on an ISA brown. Two different sized chickens, large and medium and both chickens don't seem to mind too terribly much.
