What is the difference between this M6 and the red one(cleaner wax)?

I have read that the Red/Maroon container is Lite Duty, and #6 is Medium Duty/Professional.  I just bought 2 container's of the maroon at WalMart, but am returning them because I can get the #6 in 64oz for about the same price as 4 container's 16oz @ WalMart.  I like the #6 better,, as I think that it clean's and polish's better, and maybe the Wax may stay on longer, but not sure about the longevity.  The Cleaner and Polish alone is difference enough for me to prefer the #6.  I want to take good care of the Paint and Appearance of my Truck,, but Time and Energy is also Very Important, so this is the Best 2 Step Cleaner/Polish/Wax Product that I have found. Long ago I used Wesley's Auto Polish,, but is no longer available.  Mequiar's may have bought the Right's to Wesley's Auto Polish,, and the #6 may be the same thing.

If I want the least aggressive polish to use by hand for a 2016, garage kept coupe would this be it?

Meguiar’s #7 is not at all abrasive. Based on the way you worded the question, I’ll assume the finish is in very good shape already and you are looking for something to give it a deep shine. If that assumption is true, #7 will indeed do that. However, there are some things you should know about it and it’s original purpose.

“Back in the day” when hand-rubbed lacquer finishes were preferred for show cars, this stuff was the final step before the show room doors opened. The steps were to shoot the lacquer, which looked pretty good as it was. However, every spray painted anything will always has a little bit of “orange peel” on the surface. To get rid of that, one would have to go through several stages of “color sanding” with ever increasingly fine grits of sandpaper followed by rubbing compounds of similar decreasing “cut” to remove scratches left by the previous step. In the Classic Meguiar’s line, when you were done with the 6000 grit paper, you would use #1 (medium cut) followed by #3 (fine cut) and finally #7 (mirror glaze).

One of the key things to know is that up to and including #3, you could use circular motions to apply/remove product. #7 should be applied and removed in straight lines. This will help eliminate “swirl” marks left by all of the previous processes.

The next thing you need to know is that #7 IS NOT WAX; it will NOT protect the finish. It is for “shine and show” only. But, if you did the whole previous right, you could literally read a newspaper in the the reflection and the depth of color is like nothing else.

A vehicle from 2016 most likely has a color/clear coat paint job, which will have orange peel. Unless you have the skill/courage to color sand your clear coat, nothing will make that go away. That being said, and again assuming the finish is in good condition, #7 will indeed make the color look richer and deeper for the time you want to show it off, especially if the color is on the dark side.

Those classic black show cars with the flawless paint were always topped with #7...after countless hours of other work.

The last thing you need to know is, regardless of what you use, including anything made by Meguiar’s, once you wax the car (which you must if it’s going to see the light of day for any appreciable period, it won’t look as good as it did with just #7.

So, it’s some of the best stuff ever, but it has a specific purpose. If you use it for that purpose it’s great.

What color pad do you use to apply this wax with D/A?

On our large orbital unit we use the soft terry-type bonnets, and on our smaller unit we use a more aggressive pad.  It depends on the condition of the vehicle's paint.

will this work ok to remove scratches or swirl marks?
