Worth its weight in gold
Well, almost, but for someone like me, who has a wood burning stove and access to a friend’s woodland this machine has easily earned its place in my workshop.I have never used a petrol powered chainsaw so cannot compare it. However, for a novice like me, it is well balanced and efficient. I only have 4ah batteries and it does ok. I have a 2.3m long trailer and it copes very well with sawing up enough 200-250mm diameter logs to fill the trailer.I have taken it apart to clean it and to fit new chains and I am impressed with the overall quality of construction and materials. The only small niggle is the safety function whereby it turns off after a very short while. It would be nice if the timer could be adjusted. I would strongly recommend as a useful tool for a large wooded garden. It’s a easy decision if you have already invested in the Makita 18v system.

Jolly handy for garden and casual use.
Where this chain saw is at it's most useful is for someone like myself, who already has at least four Makita 18 volt Li-Ion batteries, and who needs to use the saw for garden work, serious hedge trimming and the occasional sawing-up of fast-growing softwood trees. The saw is light, handy and well-balanced, with proper features like chain oiling and a sensible length of bar. It will cut through 200 mm of softwood, like a knife through butter. The dc power source gives a smooth, controllable cut and there is no messing about with liquid fuel, priming systems or starting and maintenance issues.

Expensive but good
Battery life is a bit disappointing. With 2*5 Ah on tap, which is 3x what many other electric chainsaws have, I am surprised it doesn't last longer. At £225 plus very expensive batteries it's also expensive. Everything else is great though, love the design and quality build, slices 12" trunks with little difficulty, and although you can't keep doing that for long, if you have a dual Makita battery charger the. You can recharge in the time it takes to split and stack the logs. It's quiet too. Buy a big bottle of oil, it's cheap and you will need it.

Bought for a big job
I purchased this to cut down a huge tree! The chain slip off a few times but seeing as it's quite small! I managed to cut the whole tree down. 2 x 5 mah batteries and had to change them a few times. But it got the job done .

Not too heavy, cuts through trunks easily, not loud.
Works really well. light, not very noisy, great with 2 x 5amp batteries, cuts quickly through 1ft trunks (so much quicker than a saw). Highly recommend.

Cuts like a petrol saw
Great saw, cuts like a petrol model no shortage of power. This is a full chainsaw so has the standard bolt and screw chain fitting/tightening system which I prefer over the quick tighten models but this won't be for everyone. Chains are easy to buy fit and tighten but they are a less used size. I have seen people on the internet change the chain and bar to the standard size if this is a problem but I have just used the standard ones. They cut extremely fast with high chain speeds and good clearance. Chain oil is easily filled and adjusted even the lowest setting works for me on softwood but on hardwood it needs to be increased although I have never needed it to the max. Battery life is excellent when cutting/felling trees and the dual charger is great charging both batteries in 45 mins max. The charger does have the fans which are noisy but this means you can charge even a hot battery at full speed unlike several other brands. Standard power sharpeners work for the chains and the chains/bars are the same price range as most others at this length and are available from Amazon (they are the Oregon brand). My top recommendation for this item would be make sure you have all of the protective equipment this is not a small battery powered saw for pruning bushes this item is really for more serious use.

Good for smaller logs and basic gardening.
Chain provided blunted very quickly, but okay after a quick sharpen.
