BerghausMen's Hillwalker Interactive Gore-Tex Waterproof Shell Jacket

The jacket is nice and light for what it is, It looks good and the material seems genuine gore-tex as expected, I used this for long walks and is comfortable to wear. When the weather is bad this coat performs really well in the rain and water beads off fast, just to note it has a second zip inside for attaching a fleece and is a good quality zip too, this is useful for attaching my own fleece and together it can keep you dry without having to need several layers of clothes/jumpers ect. The jacket is good enough to use on it's own as using a fleece together it can get really warm and cause you to sweat,so only use a fleece with this if it's really really cold. The breathability is good too and is wind proof (this material works well and stops all wind getting through) the zip flap on the front has velcro instead of press studs and I like how easy it is to seal up the front of the flap. The hood is big enough to have a beanie hat on too, the front of the hood has little toggle type things for adjusting the fit, but I did not need to change the fit.Overall a superb waterproof jacket that's easy to put on and works really well in the heavy rain, breathability is good and windproof. You will need trousers to keep the legs dry as rain beads off and will soak the lower legs. Super easy recommendation and the best waterproof jacket I've ever had and love it!!!

Having had a regatta jacket previously which was about as waterproof as a sieve I decided I wanted a Gore-Tex jacket. This was amongst the cheapest available and was also from a reputable brand. I’ve had this for 2 months and Dec 2023 has been very wet. This has not let any water in and keeps the wind out too. The pockets are large and the internal pocket well located. The hood is great, adjustable and has a good enough peak to stop rain dripping into your face. Everything seems well made. It also looks stylish enough to wear around town if needed. The front storm flap is practical but does annoy me a little with the Velcro - however its benefits outweigh this. I am 5’ 6”, 32” waist and a bit of a belly. A medium is large enough to put a down jacket on underneath and looks decent without any significant layering too.

This shell jacket was married with a polar fleece. The 2 item work together in tandem and make a perfect walking / hiking jacket for summer and colder conditions, great product received as new delivered on time with great service.

The fact that it’s Goretex is nice, although goretex is over rated and there are better products out there. However, the Berghaus brand is always a fairly good choice for quality, and this one works fine! Plus points are the mesh liner (which is so much nicer than an unlined coat) and decent hood.

Fantastic. I have never purchased a waterproof coat like this before. I stood in the shower for a few minutes and all the water just beaded off and didn’t soak into the material like my other jackets. I also had an old burghaus fleece that zipped straight into it. I have only worn it a couple of times while hiking and it fits perfectly. I always wear a cap to keep rain out of my face and the hood fitted well with it on.

Worth money jacket

Berghaus Hillwalker Mens Gore-Tex jacket (XL)...I purchased this jacket after having for 12 years The North Face Evo II tri-climate hy-vent one.The good:- Amazon delivery and the price were good;- the jacket is made with good quality materials (Gore-Tex etc)The bad (and the ugly)- the jacket design/style is very poor:- the sizing is messed up- I wear Large, had to order XL replacement as the Large size comes smaller than normal.- the jacket in XL size: the chest-sholder size is fits ok (I am 184cm tall), but the sleeves come long and you are forced to use the velcros to stop them hanging baggy on you. The velcros are poor- less than an inch of "sticky" area, not covering nowhere near good enough; when you try to put your hands in your pockets, the velcros catch on tge zips and get undone... In comparison, The North Face jacket has (a)- half-circumference of the sleeve end tightened with elastic, the other half - covered by the velcros; (b)- much better velcros all together;- the hem cord ONLY covers the only back HALF of the jacket, making it absolutely pointless - the minute one try to tighten it up, basically as the back is tight, then it pulls the front of the jacket really awfully.- the length of the jacket is I would say a couple of inches too long. At the same time the zip goes all the way down to almost the bottom. When the jacket is zipped up, if you try to say tighten your shoe laces, it gets uncomfortable and unless you pull the jacket up, your are risking ripping the zip open...- the hood is useless - as previous comments have mentioned, the adjustment cords are not good at all. At the same time, the hood is not styled properly, so no matter how much you try to adjust it, if it is windy and rainy (as it often is in the UK!), the hood will not stay in place unless you hold it, which makes a mockery of the whole thing. When you try to put the hood in the collar pocket, the jacket is shocking uncomfortable (nothing like this happens on the similar The North Face jacket);- pockets ARE NOT of the quality you expect on a high performance jacket: the main two hem pockets are basically two "openings" closed with a zip, lined with a silky-feeling material, which has zero thermal feeling; if somebody had thought about it, they would have used the kind of soft, microfibre material used on the inside of the collar! The pockets are located too low, so when you put your hands in, it just feels awkward;- the chest pocket is absolutely crazy design - you have to UNZIP(?!?) the jacket in order to get to it - utter nonsense. On a decent jacket, the chest pocket is accessible without having to unzip the main jacket...- whilst the Gore-Tex material has great breathability properties, when the weather is changeable (as it often is in the UK), you will find you need the micro fleece to keep you warm; the minute the sun comes out, you will be hot and sweaty as the jacket doesn't have enough ventilation. For example, on an old-style The North Face Jacket, there are zips below the armpit and these are excellent for this purpose! Something else you might want to consider, Berghaus styling team!Overall verdict:Probably below £200 it will be difficult to find jacket made with better materials. Gore-Tex membrane is always a good choice!However, this jacket is not styled by people who understand hiking. It feels it is designed by someone who has never actually been anywhere near hiking...In my opinion, Berghaus have made a real mess of of what could have been a super jacket: great materials, really poor functional performance...What an own goal, Berghaus team!!P.s. that said, the North Face jackets nowadays have also become poor (unlike the ones made say 10 years ago), so in essence one has to chose the least poor product amongst an mediocre competitors....

I work as a tour guide so I'm outside all the time. In very heavy rain it kept me perfectly dry for 3 hours. The only thing that is slightly annoying and that is the inside pocket; the coat has to be opened to get at it, it would be much better with access from under the storm flap. For the money it's a great buy.
