A good, but rushed final season (Prior Season Spoilers)
++++Warning, this contains spoilers from the prior season, and some hints, but no major giveways for season 5+++++This, of course, was the final season of the only DC superhero show not airing on the CW. It was never tied to the other shows, aside from a quick shot of the Queen Consolidated logo that flashed in season 1. With the infinite Earths storyline that has been building on the other shows, there is a strong possibility that it was just set on an alternate Earth than the other shows. From the beginning, it has been telling origin stories for the various characters that would eventually be part of the Batman universe. It has really been the first live-action telling of the story from the time Bruce Wayne's parents were killed until the time he grew up. The show would have benefitted from a 10 season run to give David Mazouz time to really grow up to a point where he would believably be Batman. Even though he has gotten taller, at 19 he was still not at a point where you can believe him being in the suit. The final season picks up months after the events that ended season 4. For most of the season, up through episode 11, the show did its take on the "No Man's Land" story from the comics. It was a very different telling of that story from the version that was shown in The Dark Knight Rises, the final film of the Nolan Trilogy of movies. You definitely have to suspend disbelief to buy the story as a whole given that a few bridges blowing up would not really be enough to keep help from coming in, getting people out, etc. That said, it was very well done, and did provide a way to introduce Bane, played by Shane West, into the story. Through that part of the season, it was mostly about tying up that last storyline, introducing some new elements (such as the birth of the Barbara Gordon that will become Batgirl), and resolving storylines of the various villains. The final episode does a time jump. It will not be giving anything away to say we see Batman in the final episode. That much was given away before the season even started. It was a decent series finale, but it did feel a bit too rushed. It should have been a two-hour finale and should have had more character interactions. After watching it again, I know why the showrunners made the choices in the final episode that they did, but it may leave some people unsatisfied. The big controversy of the final episode was recasting Selina, replacing Cameron Bicondova with Lilli Simmons (probably best known from the series Banshee). Bincondova has said that it was her choice not to play the older Selina, and to me, given her role in the finale, it was not a huge deal.Overall, I think that the show did a good job with the shortened season, and ultimately took the story where the writers and producers intended it to go. That said, I do think that because there were 10 fewer episodes than normal, the writers were trying to pack a ton in, giving all the characters a show that at least highlighted, if not was centered, around them, that it did not tell the story as well as it could have been told. For those who get the blu-rays, the 12 episodes are on two discs. They are (thankfully) the blu-ray sets that allow you to play all and pick up where you leave off if you stop midway through an episode. The extras include deleted scenes from some episodes, a portion of the NY comic-con panel with some of the actors and producers, a 15 minute behind the scenes featurette on the final season, and a 38 minute featurette on various DC comic villains (not only from the show, but the other DC shows like Arrow, Flash, and Krypton). A pretty good amount considering how light some of the tv series sets being released these days on physical media are on bonus features.Overall, it was a good show, that had a pretty good run. I cannot say everyone will like the way the show ended, but given that there was no guarantee that the show would even get a final season, I do think they did the best they could with the number of shows they had to work with.

Very much a step up
Compared to the previous four seasons, the writing for season five of Gotham is more than just a step up. Since it is the final season of the show, familiar elements of the standard Batman villains start to show up. Once the first episode gets going, it's like an orange being peeled to get the goodness below. It starts acting very much like The Animated Series more than anything else. It also, like the other four seasons dives deep into the villain mythology and pulls out some characters that haven't been mentioned since the comics, this is where the show shines the most. The only thing this season should have more of is the Joker. Cameron literally hogs the spotlight as his own Joker, and like Hamill, Nicholson and Ledger, he's probably going to end up having this be his defining role. Nothing feels seriously over the top and Gotham will always be Gotham. I even started quoting Tom Wilkenson's line from Batman Begins by the second or third conversation I heard between Gordon and Bullock - Never underestimate Gotham City,....It may be a Batman-less spin off, but even w/o the caped crusader present, the acting is top grade and there are several things that wrap up that the fans have been waiting for. Not only that but Morena Baccarin is still just as beautiful as she was when she first showed up in season two.

MY MOST FAVORITE COMIC BOOK SHOW.
I have a been a batman fan since 89. I LOVED THIS SHOW! it gave such justice to the comics and Tim Burton's edge towards what Gotham really was and stood for. A wonderful origins story that gave us all insight on the villains before they knew batman. Never knew Jim Gordon had to go through so much before Bruce Wayne took the reins. A joy to watch and the soundtrack and theme and wardrobes and atmosphere SCREAMS batman. I just cant say enough. The acting is a whole other review because its just THAT DAMN GOOD.

Great Pre-Batman show
Excellent series. A cop show Noir style like old 50's flicks, but with bizarre villains. Characters are very well developed, great writing & acting! A 6th season for more of the Batman persona would have been nice!

Batman-Gotham Show is Hot!!
Batman-Gotham TV show was one of my Favorite shows to watch over the five years, It's sad that Gotham had to come to an end, Season Five was great and I enjoyed how FOX did a great job with the story line, they chose the right actors for the parts. I have all five seasons and love re-watching them from time to time. Hope to see a continuation of this series in the future.

Buen producto

The final season was the best
Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you feel about it. The final season of this series turned out to be the best of all. Bruce Wayne finally becomes Batman. Obviously as the show was pre-Batman Gotham city that couldn't happen 'till the end. Hopefully leading up to a serious live action Batman tv series some day. But I imagine many fans were anxious to see Batman arrive because for some reason, most of his arch villains arrived before him. I used to joke that by the time Batman showed up the criminals would all be so old that they would be beating Batman over the head with their walkers or something. Never got that aspect of the show. But this final season was likely the very best of all, since season 1. Maybe they could do a Catwoman spin-off some day starring the stunningly beautiful 20 year old actress Camren Bicondova who played the role of Selena on Gotham. A stunning beauty. I will miss seeing her on tv each week.
