The Ralph Steadman Book Of Dogs Hardcover – May 4, 2011

I thought it was not quite up to the inspired level of 'Critical Critters', which I also have, but nonetheless, enjoyable.I plan to use Steadman's style of art as inspiration for my own dog book.

I love this book. Not for kids. I am an art teacher and I use ink splatter activities with the students so this has some good examples, but you can't let the whole book be available to students. And yes, I know who steadman is and I never expected to be able to use the whole book in class. The book definitely celebrates the more hedonistic qualities of dog personality and psychology in a very fun and in your face way.

Better than the Book of Jones but just a little. Perhaps it's a question of size. Size does matter I guess. Perhaps the original illustrations are larger and look better, but in a book like this the work is questionable. Some are ok and some are not so ok. I am not impressed with the splatter drawings. They seem to be the work of someone tired and just trying to meet a deadline. In all fairness, some of the illustrations in this book were outrageously funny captioned. I guess my biggest gripe was the unevenness of the book overall.

Ralph Steadman sees the world through different eyes - at least that's what shows up in his drawings, and this book is full of them. This is one of those books that you get and look at all the wonderful drawings and then set it on the shelf and find yourself pulling it back out month after month and enjoying the pictures over and over and over again. Not too many books like that - and no one like Ralph Steadman.

This is just one of many amazingly illustrated books by Steadman. He first came to public awareness by illustrating Hunter Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which is a counter culture masterpiece. Steadman is one of my favorite graphic illustrators. His work can be a bit too freaky for some people, so look at some of the book before you buy it.

Got this as a present for someone who is both an animal lover and a Ralph Steadman fan. She loved it.

Ralph Steadman is a great artist and if you enjoy Hunter S. Thompson you will enjoy his artwork. Beautiful pictures and really cool gift for a dog lover or to place on your coffee table.

Ralph Steadman's "'Book of Dogs" is a classic for anyone who is already a fan of Steadman. Ralph'sview of the world is unique and anyone who can accept his view and enjoy it will love this book.

A terrible book. The illustrations are all grotesque and scary. Not suitable for a young recipient. It seems that Steadman does not like dogs.

completely insane .loved it .Is steadman on medication; perhaps he should be, but we would all miss the loss of creativity
