In the kitchen: The leaves of Garlic-Chives grow in clusters and can be harvested from June until October, as can the white blossoms or flower buds. The still closed buds are the most crunchy ones and provide an especially fine aromatic taste. It is advisable not to harvest the whole and not to cut the leaves too close to the ground to avoid harming the new shoots. Fresh-cut Garlic-Chives can be used to refine a cheese sandwich, tarte flambee, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, salads or quark dishes. It also makes a wonderful supplement in Asian dishes if blanched. As with most s, Garlic-Chives should only be added towards the end of the cooking process to achieve the best flavour. The blossoms are edible as well and provide a pleasant sweetish note. They are most suited as garnish on desserts and fruit plates. The tasty flower buds can be used for frying or in stews and soups, smoothies, salads and cold cuts.
